(KGTV) - A historic letter sent from perhaps history's most famous ship by a passenger bound for San Diego is hitting the auction block.A letter from a survivor aboard the Titanic was recently listed by the English auction house Henry Aldridge and Son. Passenger Kate Buss, who was reported as heading for San Diego to marry her fiance, penned the letter more than 106 years ago.The letter dated April 10, 1912, remains in surprisingly great condition and gives readers a glimpse into life on the famed ship.In it, Buss writes to her brother, Percy, about her time on the Titanic, how she had experienced "no sign of sea sickness" yet, the unfortunate smell of fresh paint, and the "magnificent" sight of the ship's first-class apartments: 767

(KGTV) - A Disney cruise ship employee was sentenced Tuesday to 15 months in prison for wire fraud in an effort to embezzle the Walt Disney Company out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.Renan Dias Da Rocha Gomes, 32, who worked aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship, admitted to accessing an online payment system while working as a merchandise host in stores aboard the ship.Gomes said he made about 0,000 in unauthorized charges to Disney's bank account and loaded the money onto Disney gift cards.RELATED: Ex-Disney Cruise worker accused of embezzling over 5K from DisneyWhile investigating Gomes' cabin on the cruise ship, officials said they found 217 gift cards, a stolen watch, and ,240 in cash. He also admitted to spending about ,700 of the embezzled funds by taking his family on a Disney World vacation, spending thousands on lodging, food, drinks, entertainment, and merchandise.Gomes was arrested in San Diego on Oct. 27, 2017. He will have to pay Walt Disney restitution in the amount he stole and forfeit the watch and cash seized upon his arrest, officials said.Gomes, a Brazilian national, was working on the ship with a temporary visa. Is it a reduction in funding or eliminating departments? So far, the calls have included both."There are some advocates who would like to see a police-free environment in a lot of cities," Scripps National Political Editor Joe St. George tells 10News' Jon Horn. "Now for some people that is a terrifying thought. Police help prevent theft, they prevent violent crime. But critics say patrolling helps prevent crimes from happening.If budget reductions are in the mix, depending on the amount, departments can either expect layoffs or a shift in priorities, according to St. George."If you're talking millions of dollars worth of cuts to a police department, there will have to be layoffs. If you're talking a couple hundred thousand, perhaps they would shift priorities from one program to another," St. George says.In San Diego, locals voiced their calls for decreasing the police department's budget for the 2021 fiscal year. City leaders voted Monday to approve the budget, which will increase SDPD's budget to 6 million.In contrast, Minneapolis' City Council has voiced intentions to disband the local department, calling their current department unreformable.
