SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized after being shot as he sat in his car at a Southcrest park, San Diego police said. The incident happened just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of Newton Avenue, according to police. The 26-year-old victim and a 19-year-old man were sitting in a BMW when two men walked up to the car. Police said the two men pounded on the car’s windows before they opened fire. The victim was shot in the left thigh and left wrist, police said. The 19-year-old was not hurt. The victim drove the bullet-riddled BMW away from the park and called 911 to report the shooting. Police made contact with the BMW on National Avenue and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.According to police, the suspected shooters are believed to have fled the park in a white pickup truck. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local brewery's decision to use compostable can holders is the latest example of San Diego companies deciding to go green.Pure Project Brewery made the change last month, giving its customers an easier way to take home 4-packs of beer while still being environmentally friendly."You have to make that decision; do I wanna do the right thing, or do I wanna do the cheap thing," says Pure Project Co-Founder Mat Robar. He says every decision his company makes takes the environmental impact into account."It costs us a good amount of money to brew beer with organic and local ingredients, and sometimes it takes a little longer. Ultimately it's the right thing to do," says Robar. The new can holders are made of recycled grain, leftover from the brewing process. They biodegrade in 200 days. And, if they wind up in the ocean by accident, they're safe for animals to eat.Pure is one of the hundreds of San Diego companies emphasizing the planet over profits.Right now, the San Diego Green Business Network lists more than 200 local companies as members.Experts say it can help build a brand, attract a loyal customer base, and also help make money in the long run."The efficiencies of going green has significant business implications," says Heather Honea, the Chair of the Marketing Department at SDSU's Fowler College of Business."If you're trying to build a brand that's meaningful for consumers, you have to speak to the things they care about. Your brand has to be associated with the things they care about," says Honea. In California, that includes environmental impact."If I'm deciding between product a and product b, I'm choosing the product that not only delivers a certain set of quality attributes but also is going to have the impact on my local community or local environment that I think is acceptable," she says.Honea also says that investments in green technology and business practices may cost a lot of money upfront, but they tend to pay themselves off in the long run. She says that's especially true for companies that stay one step ahead of local and state laws.At Pure, they say protecting the environment is their "North Star," a guiding principle for everything they do."It takes a little bit of effort," says Cheyna Swartz, the Tap Room Manager, "But it's definitely worth it." 2331

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hillcrest man is still recovering in the hospital after he says he was attacked, leaving him with a head injury and partial paralysis.Ricky Jackle says he was walking with a friend on Robinson Avenue in Hillcrest October 14.“I was out with a friend of mine. Had a few drinks at The Rail.” According to Jackle, that’s when the assault took place.“Last thing I remember, there was a confrontation between the person I was with and somebody else. I tried to get in the middle of it to stop in. I was pushed on my chest, went backwards and hit my head on the curb. Apparently that’s when I bled out. I heard voices, by friend’s voice behind me,” said Jackle.Jackle says after the incident, his friend fled the scene. In tears, Jackle describes how the assault has changed his life. “I can’t work, I can’t do the things I used to do. I’m scared.”“I don’t think anyone should be attacked or a victim like I was, I don’t think it’s right.”While under observation at the hospital, Jackle began to feel numbness in his hands and arms which resulted in loss of movement in his hands, arms and legs, according to a GoFundMe post.“The injury caused swelling which compressed his spinal cord resulting in loss of movment [sic] and some paralysis,” according to the post.Jackle’s cousin, Derrick Roach spoke about the friend who left Jackle following the attack. “He said the reason I left Ricky is with all the blood I thought he was dead. Why would you leave someone in that condition?”Friends and family members are still searching for the suspect in the alleged attack. The incident left Jackle with 0,000 in medical bills. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego county father is speaking out about his family's close call caught on video during an off-road race down in Baja, but the driver behind the wheel says it's not what it looks like. Earlier in April, Matt Scarpuzzi of Alpine and hundreds of other drivers were participating in the "San Felipe 250" when he says another driver deliberately drove through a group of spectators, including his wife and two young children. In this type of racing drivers can deviate from the set course as long as they make it to the checkpoints, so technically it wasn't against the rules."I couldn't believe that was the best decision, in my opinion, it jeopardizes the fan safety and it jeopardizes a sport that I love," said Scarpuzzi. The man behind the wheel, B-J Baldwin, spoke to 10News and said it looks worse than it actually was.  "I had 100 percent visibility, I knew where everybody was at, knew everybody was safe. Again I was only going about 2 miles an hour when I drove through these tents," Baldwin said. He posted the video on his Facebook page and offered to replace anything he damaged. "I assured everybody that no one was in danger and I was very very careful when trying to re-enter the course and access the course," said Baldwin.  1317
