Jimmy John’s, a nationwide chain of sandwich restaurants, said it has fired the employees involved in an incident it says was "unacceptable."Video of Jimmy John’s employees showed the workers making a noose out of bread dough and placing the noose around the neck of an employee. The video was shared on Twitter, but appeared to have been grabbed from a Snapchat user.The social media video contained a social media filter reading “Happy 4th of July.”Jimmy John’s responded to the video, saying, “We have zero tolerance for racism or discrimination in any form. The franchisee has taken immediate action and the employees have been terminated. (KGTV) -- A Rock Star of Science came to San Diego to speak to medical students at UC San Diego about the latest research in Alzheimer’s.While here, Dr. Rudolph Tanzi, a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and Vice-Chair of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital met up with 10News Anchor Kimberly Hunt.Dr. Tanzi discussed his latest research, drugs in trial that may be able to wipe out the Alzheimer's decades before symptoms, and testing to target the inflammation associated with memory loss.Tanzi also spoke to Hunt about his other passion. His love of music.This passion has taken him down an unlikely path. One that has him performing live with famed guitarist Joe Perry, and playing keyboards on the last Aerosmith album.“If you can find creative success in music, that can be instant, then that will feed longer term successes in science that might take 10 years. It allows you to stick with it," Tanzi said. "Scientific success takes years, in music you can have success in a solo in a few minutes. JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Water releases to Lake Okeechobee will be adjusted beginning today, Aug. 24. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says releases will achieve a 14-day average of 2,000 cubic feet per second from Moore Haven Lock and Dam and 1,500 cubic feet per second from St. Lucie Lock and Dam. "With continued paramount focus on Herbert Hoover Dike safety throughout 2018, we need to make increased discharges to slow the still dangerous rise in lake levels," said Jacksonville District Commander, Col. Jason Kirk. "In concert with the South Florida Water Management District, we continue to maximize storage nor and south of the lake to minimize the requirement for discharges." The lake stage was 14.57 feet as of Thursday. Under these current conditions, discharges up to 4,000 cubic feet per second are allowed to be released to the Caloosahatchee and up to 1,800 cubic feet per second to the St. Lucie. Crews will use flexibility when it comes raising flows, while they still work to reduce risk to the Herbert Hoover Dike. The St. Lucie average flow will increase by 330 cubic feet per second from current releases, although runoff water from rain in the St. Lucie basin could occasionally result in flows that exceed the target amount of 1,500 cubic feet per second. Staff with the Jacksonville District will continue to monitor conditions and will make adjustments to water flows as needed.  1458

(KGTV) - The Granite Lion Cellars in Jamul will break ground Wednesday on a new tasting room and wine cave, adding to their expanding vineyard and winery in the East County."We've been waiting for this for quite a while," says Tasting Room Manager Miriam Valdez. "I"m over the moon that it's finally happening."The multi-million dollar expansion will help Granite Lion deal with the increase of customers they've seen over the past year. Sommelier David Whited says they've gone from about ten visitors each week to 150.It's an excellent problem to have, and one that is spreading up and down Highway 94. There are now six wineries between Jamul and Campo, forming their own East County Wine Region.RELATED: New tasting room highlights wineries along Highway 94"You don't have to go all the way to Temecula or Escondido," says Whited. "You can do it here, 20 minutes from downtown."The new wine cave and tasting room are the latest sign that the region is gaining in popularity. The first tasting room in the area opened in 2014. Since then, wines along the 94 have won several awards and are starting to pull customers away from Temecula, Ramona and even Baja."As word gets out, people are coming here," says Whited."You arrive, and it's quiet," says Valdez. "It's away from the busy hustle and bustle of the city. You can enjoy nature. You can find a place here to rejuvenate and relax."The San Diego County Vinters Association says there are 116 wineries across the county. A recent report showed they have a million economic impact every year.Whited says the geography in the East County allows vineyards to grow more flavorful grapes commonly found in Europe."There are two mountain ranges that filter in the marine climate into the valley here which sets us apart from anywhere else in San Diego," he says.County Supervisor Diane Jacob is expected to attend Wednesday's event. (KGTV) — Neighbors in a rural East County town are once again fighting the possible release of a sexually violent predator into their community.Currently, the Department of State Hospitals is considering Thomas Cornwell as the next new resident of the Jacumba Hot Springs area. Jacob says the individuals should, instead, be kept behind bars."As far as I'm concerned, they gave up their right to freedom when they preyed on our young and most vulnerable. They don't belong in any town. They belong behind bars," Jacob said in a statement.Since 2015, nine of 12 sexually violent predators in the county have been released into the East County. Five of 12 have violated the conditions of their release. Four have been returned to a state mental institution.Cornwell's release hasn't been finalized. His hearing is set for Dec. 14, where the public is welcomed to attend and comment. 1561
