Three people are currently battling for custody of the remains of infamous cult leader Charles Manson, who died in Bakersfield, California late last year.Jason Freeman, who claims to be Manson's grandson; Michael Brunner, who claims to be Manson's son and oldest living relative;, and Michael Channels, who was Manson's penpal for 30 years have all made claims to Masons's remains.Manson was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital Downtown last November before he eventually died. His body has been in the possession of Kern County since. In January, it was decided the fate of his remains would be decided through Kern County Superior Court. At the last hearing on Jan. 31, both Manson's son's and grandson's attorneys hinted at possibly joining forces. There have been multiple court hearings over who can lay claim to Manson's body and another to determine who will end up with his estate. This year, the number of women in charge of Fortune 500 companies hit a new a record, but out of the 37 women on that list, none of them are Latina.Leaders around the country are working to change that.Tanya Ramos is the CEO at Pencils of Promise, a group working to help 100,000 children around the world receive an education.Ramos says that because we don't see many Latinas in leadership roles, it's important to seek out mentors.“I’ve had the great fortune of having remarkable mentors throughout my career and I deem my success based on how many others, others like me, other Latinas, that I’m also able to bring up through the ranks and make room at the table for,” said Ramos.Ramos recognizes it could be intimidating to ask someone to be a mentor, but she says it's unlikely someone will say no.“If you encounter someone that you really believe could provide you with valuable advice, or if they can help you think through challenges, seek them out and ask if they would be willing to chat over the phone, or grab a coffee, when it's safe to do that of course,” said Ramos.A survey by Catalyst, a nonprofit that supports creating workplaces for women, found more than 40% of Latinas don't have a mentor. Three explosions that occurred when people picked up packages outside their residences appear to be connected, Austin, Texas, city Police Chief Brian Manley said Monday at a news conference.A Monday morning explosion killed a 17-year-old African-American boy and also injured a woman at the house. A second Monday explosion left a 75-year-old woman in critical condition, the chief said. A March 2 blast killed a 39-year-old African-American man.All the explosions occurred when people who lived at the residences went outside and picked up packages, Manley said. The packages were not delivered by the postal service or delivery services like UPS or FedEx, he said."The evidence makes us believe these incidents are related," he said, saying investigators have not come up with a motive or whether anybody has claimed responsibility. It's not known if the victims knew each other or if they were targeted, he said.Police also have not decided if these are hate crimes, but said that's a real possibility of the victims' races."We're not ruling anything out at this point," he said. For example, he says asthma patients likely do not fall under that scope. But later stages of pulmonary respiratory disease, emphysema, or a serious mobility issue can be "legitimate" reasons.Furthermore, you could face repercussions for lying.“If they're claiming that they have a disability and they don't have a disability, if that is found out, then there are criminal and civil penalties for that,” said Tarrien.As for privacy concerns, Tarrien says store employees are allowed to ask customers why they're not wearing a mask. If you refuse to answer, they may refuse entry.Even if you give a legitimate reason to not wear a mask, you may still be refused entry. That's because the ADA does not apply if there's a “direct threat” to someone's health or safety.Tarrien says HIPPA privacy laws also do not apply in this kind of situation.
