SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police investigated in Little Italy Saturday the suspicious death of a woman who appeared to be homeless.Officers received a 911 call at 3:42 a.m. reporting a body found at West Hawthorn and State streets, just west of Interstate 5.The woman appeared to have traumatic injuries but investigators could not immediately determine the source of them.The victim, who has not been identified, was in her 40's or 50's.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. 586

This is exactly what we never want to see happen again,” said Heather Finlay with the YWCA. Finlay says she was devastated after learning of the mother and her children killed over the weekend. YWCA offers an emergency shelter and transitional housing for parents and families dealing with domestic violence. According to SANDAG, in 2018, more than 17,000 domestic violence incidents were reported in San Diego County. “Leaving an intimate partnership is never easy especially if there are children involved,” said Yvette Lopez-Cooper with the San Diego Family Justice Center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Monday a motion to reduce thousands of marijuana convictions.The motion asks the San Diego Superior Court to reduce 25,000 marijuana convictions, ranging from felonies to misdemeanors, and dismiss another 1,000 misdemeanor convictions completely.“We’ve been a leader in the state and pro-active on giving individuals with marijuana convictions the opportunity to move forward with their lives without a conviction that may have been negatively impacting their lives by restricting their employment or housing,” said Stephan. “This latest motion is the continuation of work that began more than two years ago. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego lifeguards towed the remains of a beached whale from Blacks Beach to Fiesta Island Monday, hours after two whales were spotted off Orange County.Lifeguards found the grey whale on the shore about 11 a.m. It was towed from the Torrey Pines area to Mission Bay and arrived at 3:30 p.m.Experts with the National Marine Fisheries will perform a necropsy to determine why the whale died.The discovery came within an hour of a rare sighting in Seal Beach in Orange County.Two whales appeared to be stuck in one spot between a sandbar and the shoreline, near the end of the San Gabriel River Trail.Witnesses called California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials to check on the animals, KABC reported. 752

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Humane Society officers rescued 21 cats living in filthy conditions in a South Bay home on Tuesday.SDHS said Wednesday officers were working to recover more from the home.The cats were recovered from the home and are suffering from a range of health conditions, including malnutrition, fleas, upper respiratory infections, and some eye traumas that were left untreated. Wednesday, one of those cats was scheduled to undergo emergency eye surgery.Humane Society staff say the cats will be cared for at the shelter but did not say whether they would eventually be offered for adoption.SDHS did not say whether charges were being filed against the homeowner. 692
