The tournaments and leagues are often hosted by video game studios — EA Sports, the maker of Madden NFL 19, was hosting the tournament in Jacksonville on Sunday. Early eSports tournaments focused on niche games and attracted mainly hard-core gamers as spectators, but that didn't stop spectators from turning out in droves. eSports has sold out arenas in China, Japan and even in the US as spectators watched the best of the best play games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends and Overwatch.But in the past few years, eSports has been going mainstream.In 2018, the NBA launched the NBA 2K League — a season-long competition featuring gamers playing an NBA video game for teams affiliated with actual NBA franchises. In addition, more than 60 colleges and universities throughout the country have eSports teams, some of which offers scholarships to gamers.Where are people watching eSports?The popularity of eSports has exploded in recent years, thanks to the streaming service Twitch. The website allows gamers to live-stream their gaming sessions, and some of the top-ranked gamers play in front of millions of viewers who live stream from their homes.Swedish gamer PewDiePie has more than 72 million subscribers combined between his Twitch and YouTube channels —despite making controversial comments in past months.Another gamer, Ninja, regularly gains 50,000 viewers per stream. Reports indicate he makes 0,000 annually by playing games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.Sunday's mass shooting in Jacksonville was briefly streamed live on Twitch. Not since a monolith was found on the surface of the moon in Stanley Kubrick's classic "2001: A Space Odyssey" has a mystery object confounded the greatest minds of our generation.Or maybe not.According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, a curious metallic-looking object was found in the southeastern part of the state while conducting a count of bighorn sheep by helicopter.Utah Highway Patrol posted photos and videos of the object on Friday that showed a 10-foot tall metallic object with four sides. The surface is shiny but does not appear to be reflective.According to the post, the item was found in the "middle of nowhere."Officials won't announce the exact location of the object as "it is in a very remote area, and if individuals were to attempt to visit the area, there is a significant possibility they may become stranded and require rescue."It's not known who installed the metal monolith. On Election Night, voters from around the country will sit on the couches, grab their iPads and start paying attention to the results. While we have already profiled why results will likely take awhile this year, perhaps no state is better situated to have delayed results than Pennsylvania. WHY PA RESULTS MAY TAKE WEEKSJoe Corrigan, a political consultant in Philadelphia, says with a record number of voters voting by mail, combined with state rules regarding when ballots can be counted, results will take time. "We are seeing about 10 to 15 thousand mail-in ballots requested a day (in Pennsylvania)," Corrigan said. These ballot requests are overwhelming elections offices across the state."Pennsylvania law prohibits county boards of elections from counting any absentee ballots or mail-in ballots until 8 p.m. on Election Day when polls close," Corrigan added. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled Thursday that ballots can arrive until 5 p.m. ET on the Friday after the election and still count. The ballots do have to be postmarked on or before Election Day to be counted.That doesn't even begin to take into account the state is using relatively new in-person voting machines. "I would very happy to know who won Pennsylvania by Thanksgiving," Corrigan said. WHAT IS BEING DONEElection officials know they have pending issues. One pilot is dead and another hospitalized after a plane crash at a Texas Air Force base.An Air Force T-38C Talon crashed Tuesday night at the Laughlin Air Force Base, according to a statement from the base.
