A man and his girlfriend sued the state of Hawaii, saying the false missile alert debacle earlier this year caused him to have a heart attack.James Sean Shields and girlfriend Brenda Reichel filed the suit Tuesday. He told her the threat was real, heightening their fears even more.Minutes later, they arrived at the beach and began calling loved ones, saying their goodbyes. Right after Shields called his son and daughter who live on the US mainland, he said he started to feel "a severe and painful burning" in his chest.He went to a hospital where he went into cardiac arrest. A doctor performed CPR, and Shields then underwent emergency surgery.The damage to Shields' heart since the heart attack has been confirmed by several tests, the suit says. 1495

A man managed to escape the first eruptive fury of Vesuvius in A.D. 79, only to be crushed beneath a block of stone hurled by an explosive volcanic cloud, new excavations at the site suggest.Archeologists working at the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, Italy, found the man's remains almost 2,000 years after he died.Stunning pictures from the scene show a skeleton pinned beneath the stone. The impact crushed the top of the man's body. His head might still be buried beneath the block of stone.Lesions on the skeleton's tibia are signs of a bone infection that probably hampered the man's escape attempt, archeologists said.Nonetheless, the man, who was at least 30 years old, survived the first phase of the eruption and fled along an alley, probably limping because of his infection. 793

A man is hospitalized, but expected to survive, after his girlfriend struck him with her car following a domestic argument, according to police in Port St. Lucie, Florida.The incident happened in the 1900 block of W. Dunbrooke Circle.Police said the man got out of the car and began walking down the street and the woman then dropped off her baby at their house, drove back to where the man was walking and hit him.Video posted by police shows crime scene tape around a car which appears to have a big dent in the hood and a shattered windshield.The man, described as the woman's 24-year-old live-in boyfriend, was airlifted to a hospital with head trauma.  He was undergoing surgery late Wednesday afternoon.Police did not identify either person but said the investigation continues. “It sounded like a car hitting a shopping cart," said Lance Chmura who lives just across the street from the crash scene. He was making breakfast around 9 a.m. when he heard the impact and ran out to help.“I went down, grabbed his hand and stabilized him because he was starting to thrash around a bit," said Chmura.The impact of the crash was so intense it sent the man flying 35 yards down the street.“She (the girlfriend) then left the scene, drove back home.  Her relative got in car and came back to the scene," said Master Sgt. Frank Sabol with Port St. Lucie Police.The victim’s grandmother would not reveal what the girlfriend said to her immediately after the crash, but said the couple had a good relationship and had just moved down here last month. She said she thinks this was an accident.“I think they were just playing around and didn’t realize the severity of it," said the grandmother.“The initial investigation determines she was on the wrong side of the road when he was struck," added Sgt. A bus carrying 50 people overturned in northern Mississippi on Wednesday afternoon, killing two on board, ABC News reported citing a local coroner. According to ABC News, heavy sleet coated roadways in the area, which may have been a factor in Wednesday's accident. Interstate 269 was closed in both directions near the site of the crash. WREG-TV reported that 46 people were on board the bus at the time of the accident. The bus was chartered in a route from Huntsville, Alabama to Tunica, Mississippi. 531

A COVID-19 outbreak within the University of Florida's football program has prompted the Southeastern Conference to postpone Saturday's matchup between the No. 10 Gators and the defending national champion LSU Tigers.The game is tentatively rescheduled for Dec. 12, the SEC said in a statement.On Tuesday, Florida suspended football activities after seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases.According to the Associated Press, 19 Gators players, head coach Dan Mullen, and two assistant coaches have tested positive for the virus.This marks the second SEC game to be postponed this week because of COVID-19. The SEC postponed the game between Vanderbilt Commodores and Missouri Tigers after a virus outbreak within the Commodores program.That game is also tentatively rescheduled for Dec. 12. 791
