UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday voiced its hope that the upcoming summit of the Group of 20 largest economies (G20) will help achieve positive efforts that include the efforts to strengthen the institution building, enhance market confidence around the world and accelerate the recovery of the world economy.The statement came as Li Baodong, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, was speaking at the informal meeting of the UN General Assembly on the upcoming G20 summit in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea (ROK)."China hopes that the Seoul summit will, in the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win outcome on the basis of implementation of the outcomes of previous G20 summit, achieve the following positive results: First, strengthen the institution building of the G20, enhance market confidence around the world, and accelerate the recovery of the world economy," Li said."Second, complete the IMF's share reform before the summit and fulfill the commitments made by the G20 leaders," he said. "Third, address the imbalance in development issues, so as to provide political support to the early realization of the MDGs," the eight anti-poverty targets to be reached by 2015. IMF stands for the International Monetary Fund, a Bretton Woods institute.A one more positive results that China hopes to see at the end of the coming G20 summit is to "facilitate the achievement of a comprehensive and balanced outcome at the Doha Round and the fulfillment of the Development Round objectives," he said."China stands ready to work with all parties concerned to ensure that the G20 summit continue to develop in line with the common interests of the international community," he said.Meanwhile, the senior Chinese diplomat also voiced his support to the UN involvement in the G20 summit."China supports the initiative of the G20 to invite, as it did in the past, representatives of the United Nations to participate in the summit and its preparations," he said."China welcomes the effort of the (UN) secretary-general to gather the views and proposals of the member states and bring these inputs to the summit in Seoul," Li said."The G20 summit has played a significant and positive role in coordinating global response to the international financial crisis and in promoting the recovery of the world economy. The United Nations is the most authoritative and representative multilateral organization," he said. "Enhancing coordination and cooperation between the G20 and the United Nations will help strengthen global economic governance, promote the sustainable and balanced recovery of the world economy, and address the legitimate concerns of small and medium-sized countries."The G20 members account for 90 percent of global output, 80 percent of global trade, and two-thirds of the world's population. They include: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the ROK, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
TOKYO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara said Tuesday that he will try hard to rebuild a "strategic, mutually beneficial relationship" with China.During a luncheon meeting at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan, Maehara said he will strive to mend ties with China as foreign minister.He also welcomed the agreement between Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in Belgium Monday to resume talks between high-level officials of the two countries.Earlier in the day Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku expressed his hope for the improvement of Japan's relations with China."Promoting a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship and improving ties between Japan and China will be positive not only for the two countries but also for other Asian countries or countries around the world, especially for their economies," said Sengoku at a regular press conference in Tokyo.China-Japan relations have been soured recently after the Japanese Coast Guard illegally seized a Chinese fishing boat and detained the crew on Sept. 8 in waters off the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea.Japanese authorities insisted on performing a so-called domestic judicial procedure against the crew despite strong protests from the Chinese government and public. BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Pudong Development (SPD) Bank said its first-half-year net profit rose 33.92 percent from one year earlier due largely to lending boom and increased commission fees.Net profits climbed to 9.08 billion yuan (1.34 billion U.S. dollars) in the first six months of this year, the Shanghai-based lender said in a statement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange late Sunday.Its growth in profits stemmed from rising operating revenues, a result of growing net interest earnings, increased fee incomes and the improved quality of assets, according to the statement.Earnings per share stood at 0.791 yuan, up 20.21 percent from one year earlier. Also, operating revenues grew 36.42 percent to 22.75 billion yuan in the first half of 2010, it said.Total assets for the commercial bank hit 1.781 trillion yuan by the end of June, up 9.77 percent from the end of 2009.
BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) - China's top economic planning agency Thursday urged authorities nationwide to step up supervision to stabilize prices in food, transportation and tourism during the upcoming holidays.Focus should be attached to cracking down on price rigging, including circulating misleading or false information about price hikes, commodity hoarding or forcing up prices of grain, cooking oil, meat, eggs and dairy products, said an official from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).The official also asked involved departments to ramp up measures to regulate prices of public transportation and in the tourism industries, while curbing arbitrary price hikes and irregular charges.Complaints and reports from the public will be accepted at hotline phone number "12358", said the official.This year's Mid-autumn Festival holiday is Sept. 22 to 24, and the National Day holiday lasts from Oct. 1 to 7.
