BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) - China on Friday called for a settlement to the territorial dispute between Israel and the Arab countries through negotiations.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks while commenting on an Israeli bill that had been passed by the Israeli Knesset (parliament) Monday. The bill demands a referendum should any Israeli government make territorial concessions in East Jerusalem to the Palestinians or in the Golan Heights to Syria.Since the aftermath of the 1967 war, Israeli law requires a two-thirds majority of consent by the Israeli public when handing over territories to Palestine and Syria. However, the law goes against the spirit of United Nations (UN) resolutions and cannot change the fact that East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights are occupied lands of the Arab countries, Hong said."China calls on Israel to follow the relevant UN resolutions as well as the established principles of international laws to properly settle the territorial dispute through negotiations for the realization of a comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East," said Hong.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's rapid economic growth is good for the U.S. workers, and the U.S. government is committed to improving bilateral economic relations with China, said U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on Thursday."China has lifted almost 200 million people out of poverty (in the past two decades). And in the years ahead, hundreds of millions more Chinese will ascend into the middle class," Locke said at a U.S.-China commercial relations forum, which was held in Washington ahead of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) session scheduled for Dec. 14-15."The United States welcomes this growth because this is good for the people of China ... it's good for the global economy, and good for U.S. business and ultimately, U.S. workers," said Locke. He noted that as recently as 40 years ago, the commercial relationship between the United States and China barely existed. But in the recent decades, "we have seen our countries grow progressively closer."In 2009, the bilateral trade volume reached some 365 billion dollars. China was the largest supplier of U.S. goods imports in 2009 and was the third-largest market for U.S. exports, only after Canada and Mexico.Locke mentioned that as U.S. Commerce Secretary, he has visited China for four times."Each time I visit China, I'm absolutely amazed by the transformation and the progress within China," he said.Locke noted that although there are disagreements between the two sides, there are more opportunities for cooperation."In many areas, especially in emerging industries, like clean energy and biotechnology, the interests of China and the United States are tied together. And the reform as good for the U.S. will be good for China as well," he added.Locke also revealed that during the upcoming 21st session of the JCCT in Washington D.C., the two countries will seek to further "nurture and improve the most highly-scrutinized bilateral economic relationship on Earth.""This is our most important bilateral dialogue or mechanism for resolving trade and investment issues between our two countries," he stressed. The session will be co-chaired by Locke and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will also join the dialogue.

BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) has announced that it would publicize the affairs of grassroots Party organizations by the end of 2011, a further step in its effort to push forward intra-party democracy. The decision was made public on Tuesday by He Guoqiang, secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, during a national meeting in Beijing where he laid out a five-point plan on the publication of affairs of grassroots Party organizations. He said Party organizations at all levels should fully understand and implement a guiding document that was issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee in September. The document called openness in Party affairs the life of the Party and an essential part of the intra-Party democracy, and defined openness in Party affairs as "publication of content, procedures, results and other aspects of Party affairs within a certain scope."Publishing affairs of grassroots Party organizations was an important measure to expand democracy within the Party at the grassroots level, safeguard the democratic rights of Party members, strengthening intra-Party supervision, and regulating the use of power, the document said.He urged Party organizations at all levels to meticulously draw up implementation schemes to ensure that the policy of openness in Party affairs would begin in grassroots Party organizations, including those in enterprises, rural areas, government institutions and schools. He said grassroots Party organizations should willingly publicize its affairs, such as its resolutions, the implementation of these resolutions, and official appointments, in a timely manner except for those concerning classified information of the Party and the state.
