SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An inmate died in his cell at a San Diego jail Friday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.The man, identified as Manuel Cruz, 37, was found unresponsive alone in his jail cell at 3:46 p.m. Friday.Paramedics responded, but despite lifesaving efforts, deputies say the man died. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- AMC is reopening an additional 140 theaters nationwide by Friday, including seven of its locations in San Diego County.The reopenings will mean 70 percent of the company's theaters, 420 total, will be open before Labor Day weekend.A vast majority of the theaters, the company said, will reopen on Thursday.On Friday, Sept. 4, these seven San Diego area theaters will be open to the public:AMC Chula Vista 10AMC Fashion Valley 18AMC La Jolla 12AMC Mission Valley 20AMC Otay Ranch 12AMC Plaza Bonita 14AMC DINE-IN Poway 10As part of the reopenings, AMC is "offering an array of food and beverage treats, including regular popcorn, regular Coca-Cola Freestyle drinks and KidsPacks, through the end of October. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A search was underway Friday for eight service members who disappeared in the waters off San Clemente Island after a training exercise involving an amphibious assault vehicle (AAV).One Marine died following the training accident and two were in critical condition at a hospital.The accident is the third time in less than 10 years that someone has been injured or died in an AAV during training. Colonel with a background in intelligence and amphibious reconnaissance, says one of the most difficult operations in the military is amphibious operations."There is an inherent danger because every once in a while those things will take on water and if they do you've got a lot of marines trapped in a vehicle and it's going to be very difficult to get everyone out safely," Kempfer said.In 2017, 15 Marines were injured during a training exercise when an AAV caught fire. In 2011, a Marine was killed when an AAV sank off the coast near Camp Pendleton."It does happen, that when you go into the water things will leak. There's hatches all over the vehicle on top, in back the crew has hatches," Kempfer says.Injuries during training exercises aren't specific to amphibious assault vehicles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Albertsons Companies confirmed Saturday an employee of an Escondido grocery store tested positive for COVID-19.The company said the store will remain open, and "will continue to follow an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process in every department."Public Affairs Director Melissa Hill said that the employee is receiving care and has not worked at the store since March 24. Hill said the Escondido store has been through multiple sanitizing and disinfecting cycles, and used third-party expert service.Hill said the store is monitoring other staff for symptoms."Following CDC guidelines, our Crisis Response Team may recommend that additional members of the store team self-quarantine. These employees will be eligible to receive up to 14 days of quarantine pay," said Hill.The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 President Todd Walters said they have been working with companies to get higher safety measures into the workplaces of members.He said three members of the union tested positive as of Saturday. He said they were all at different locations in San Diego County."We're encouraging and asking the members to 1. Make sure they get their social distance. 2.
