Theater chain AMC says it could run out of money by the end of the year, according to multiple reports.AMC Theatres said Tuesday that its existing cash resources would be "largely depleted" by the end of this year or early next year because of the "reduced movie slate for the fourth quarter," as well as "the absence of significant increases in attendance from current levels."The company says they either need to sell more tickets or find new ways to borrow money.AMC has about 500 of their 600 American theaters open at between 20-40 percent capacity depending on local regulations to stop the spread of the coronavirus.Cineworld Group, which owns Regal Cinemas, announced last week it would suspend operations at all theaters in the US and UK.Meanwhile, the film industry has pushed release dates or gone straight to streaming platforms as the pandemic continues to disrupt theater attendance and filming schedules.Marvel’s “Black Widow” and the latest James Bond film “No Time to Die” were pushed to 2021. Right now, only hospitals in Minnesota are getting them, but Wiatrowski hopes to expand the effort across the country.There are questions over whether this would really encourage people to get vaccinated. Psychology experts say think so, because there’s power in numbers. If we see a lot of people sporting these stickers, we're likely to be motivated enough to get the vaccine.The stickers can also create a sense of belonging.“That sense of belonging does cause us to feel, again, more motivated to belong to that group, to do what those other people around us are doing. But also, to stay true to the norms of that group by trying to convince others that those are the correct actions to take and norms to adopt,” said Robert Cialdini, psychology and marketing professor at Arizona State University.Cialdini is confident the stickers will encourage people to get vaccinated, but he is unsure at this point of how big of a difference they'll make.He adds another thing that could motivate people is seeing celebrities endorse the vaccine. Thomson International issued a voluntary recall Saturday for thousands of pounds of onions due to possible salmonella contamination.The recall includes red, yellow, white and sweet yellow varieties.The recall came a day after the CDC issued a food safety alert for onions produced by the company after nearly 400 people from 34 states had been sickened with salmonella. Fifty-nine of those who were sickened were hospitalized.According to the CDC's food alert, red onions are most likely the cause of the outbreak, but because of the way the onions are grown and harvested, other types may have been contaminated.According to the FDA, the onions were sold in mesh sacks as small as two pounds and in cartons as large as 50 pounds. They were shipped to grocery stores in all 50 states and Canada on May 1, and were sold under a variety of brand names.The CDC recommends throwing away all onions from Thomson International or its associated brands. If it's unclear who grew the onions, the CDC also recommends throwing them away.The agency also recommends cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces that may have come into contact with the onions, including countertops, refrigerator drawers, knives and cutting boards.Restaurant goers should also ask where establishments got their onions, and not order any meals with onions if it's unclear where they were produced.Salmonella usually presents with fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. People older than 65 and younger than 5 are more likely to suffer severe illness.The onions were sold under the following brand names: Thomson Premium, TLC Thomson International, Tender Loving Care, El Competitor, Hartley’s Best, Onions 52, Majestic, Imperial Fresh, Kroger, Utah Onions and Food Lion. 1778

  

Tinder is soaring thanks to its new premium membership plan: Tinder Gold.Match Group, which owns 45 dating platforms including Tinder, OkCupid and Match.com, reported on Tuesday that Tinder Gold subscriptions boosted sales 19% from a year ago.Tinder added a record 476,000 paying members last quarter. Now 2.5 million customers pay for Tinder.Match CEO Greg Blatt called Tinder's quarter "fantastic" in a prepared statement.Investors swiped right on the report: Shares of Match Group spiked 11% on Wednesday. The stock is up 75% this year.Tinder already had Tinder Plus, which costs .99 a month and allowed customers to increase the number of people who viewed their profiles, use unlimited likes and undo swipes.In August, Tinder debuted Tinder Gold, a .99 monthly subscription that lets customers see who they've matched with as soon as they open the app. Tinder Gold saves time on the app because people don't have to swipe through other profiles to find matches."Tinder Gold plays on people's impatience," says BTIG analyst Brandon Ross.Ross says Match Group has mastered how to make money off loyal Tinder users."They're proving that if you have a deeply engaged base you will eventually get them to spend money," he explained.Still, Match Group faces competition from other dating apps like Bumble, Tastebuds, Hinge and Coffee Meets Bagel and will need to show investors that it's adding new paid subscribers.But analysts are convinced Tinder has room to grow and convert more customers to its paid offerings."There's a lot of momentum that remains behind the broader Tinder story," says Piper Jaffray analyst Sam Kemp.  1646
