SAN FRANCISCO, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Google on Tuesday released a new stable version of its Chrome web browser, which the company said is speedier, simpler and safer."With today's stable release, even your most complex web apps will run more quickly and responsively in the browser," Tim Steele, a Google software engineer, said in a blog post announcing the release.The new version of Chrome features a simpler settings page that opens in a tab rather than a dialog box, and contains a search box showing users the settings they are looking for while they type.Users can also synchronize passwords in the browser across their computers, and will be able to encrypt those passwords for extra security.Google said that the latest Chrome browser provides additional layer of protection against malicious web pages, with the extended application of sandboxing technology.The browser can be downloaded for free, and current Chrome users will be automatically updated to the new version soon, Google said.

BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's 11 government departments have jointly released a guideline outlining major measures to lessen noise pollution amid rising noise disputes and complaints, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said Tuesday.The ministry's spokesperson, Tao Detian, said Tuesday the country saw rising complaints about noise pollution, which has caused an increasingly negative impact on the living environment in recent years.The 26-article guideline focuses on addressing noise pollution in fields including industry, construction, traffic and people's daily lives.Further, the regulation bans businesses from using acoustic instruments outdoors to lure customers.Also, heavy noise polluters are banned from entering industrial parks, according to the guideline.Moreover, motor vehicles should strictly observe speed limits, traffic restrictions and use of auto horns around "noise-sensitive buildings" such as hospitals, schools, government organs, scientific research institutions and residential buildings, it said.According to the guideline, government departments would also impose higher fines on noise polluters and collect fees for "discharges of excessive noise," in accordance with law.The newly issued document calls on various government agencies, such as the ministries on environmental protection, science and technology, public security, finance, housing, transportation and railways, to make coordinated efforts to curb pollution.Further, government organs could launch regular inspection campaigns in major cities, it said.According to the guideline, government agencies will set up a system to examine sound-proof qualities of civilian buildings and provide a list of major noise pollution sources by the end of this year.Also, the guideline ordered major cities to establish an automatic noise monitoring system and to equip each city in the country with at least one noise display screen by the end of 2011.

Apple continued to gain share following the launch of the Verizon iPhone, growing by 1.1 percentage points to 7.9 percent of subscribers.On mobile content use, 68.6 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device in March. BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhuanet) -- A new study has found that Actos, a medicine treats onset diabetes, could also reduce the diabetes risk in people with prediabetes.The study, which was published Wednesday in New England Journal of Medicine, followed 602 prediabetics whose obesity, ethnicity, family history and other factors put them at high risk of developing diabetes.The research findings showed that Actos, generically known as pioglitazone, reduced the odds of developing Type 2 diabetes by 72 percent in people with prediabetes.Only 2.1 percent of those who took Actos developed diabetes each year over the three years of the study, compared with 7.6 percent of those who took a placebo.Lead author of the study Ralph DeFronzo said, "The 72 percent reduction is the largest decrease in the conversion rate of pre-diabetes to (Type 2) diabetes that has ever been demonstrated by any intervention, be it diet, exercise or medication."However, Actos can have significant side effects, including water retention, moderate weight gain, and increased risk of bone fractures.
