MILWAUKEE -- Some Milwaukee high schoolers are crushed after the dress they ordered for prom wasn’t done in time for the dance.Indira Ali, Riverside University High School Senior, wanted a custom made prom dress for her dance on April 20.Back in February, she met with Milwaukee designer, Kelvin Hayden and they came up with a design. She said weeks went by and she couldn’t get a hold of him. “I’ve been trying to contact him about it see how my dress is coming along. Every time he would give me an excuse on why I can’t see it, why he’s not returning calls,” Ali said. Ali said her mom put down a 0 deposit for the dress through PayPal.She said she was promised the dress would be done before the dance, but it wasn’t. Hours before prom she was forced to find a different one.“He told me it was going to be done in four weeks and those four weeks came and went by and I still didn’t have a dress,” Ali said. Her mom and others were furious and shared their stories on Facebook, demanding Hayden give these girls their money back. Hayden talked with Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee over the phone. He said he refunded everyone and has apologized to the young girls and their mothers. He said the company he ordered lace from for one of the prom dresses kept sending the wrong kind and weeks went by and he was forced to order a different material. “I ordered some of that fabric and paid for express shipping which was well over 0, it came in and mind you, it came in the day before her prom,” said Hayden. Issues with that one dress, Hayden said, delayed his work on three other prom dresses. With 25 years experience as a designer, Hayden told WTMJ he’s never had anything like this happen before. “There’s nothing I can say that’s going to bring their special day back,” Hayden said. A photographer, Timothy Ricketts, saw the story on social media and decided he would find a way to make it up to the girls. He said he plans to get hair stylists and makeup artists involved and take professional photos of the teens for free. NASA announced Monday that two new studies show that there may be more water on the moon than previously thought. In a press conference, NASA said that two studies published in the journal Nature Astronomy said that data gathered by a lunar orbiter and an airborne telescope detected the presence of molecular water molecules on the sunlit surface of the moon.Previously, NASA speculated that most of the water on the moon was located on the shadowy surface that is not lit by the sun.The study opens the possibility of using that water as a resource, allowing for longer missions on the moon's surface that would require astronauts to live there for extended periods of time. 683
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Police District 2 officers were heartbroken to find a dog abandoned for several days in a cold pickup truck.Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee crews were there just in time to see the rescue as police broke into the truck at 17th and National Avenue.Parking tickets on the windshield show it had been there since Saturday. As of Tuesday morning, the car still remains at that location. There was no food or water inside, but the seats were soiled with feces.Despite all of this, the dog seemed to be in good spirits.Offices took it to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, better known as MADACC.Doctor Libby Gutting checked him out. She tells us you should call police if you see a dog alone in a vehicle for more than an hour."An animal could suffer from hypothermia or even pass away from that so we definitely don't want to leave animals outside in any sort of condition especially for a car that's not running," said Dr. Gutting, Medical Director of MADACC.Dr. Gutting said the pitbull is in great shape. If his owner does not come in to claim him in five days, he could go up for adoption."Our concern is that this person has an issue with the way they need to care for their pet which means they need help," said Dr. Gutting. The captain with Milwaukee Police District 2 told WTMJ the owner, in this case, could face an animal cruelty charge. 1419
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says he’s concerned after seeing video of police using a stunning and arresting?a Milwaukee Bucks player Sterling Brown. The video is expected to be released soon, possible later this week. Police are reportedly bracing for backlash from the release of that video. This incident took place on the south side of Milwaukee in January. Police were called to a Walgreens because Brown was illegally parked across two handicap spaces. The officers say they tried to talk to Brown but had to deploy their stun guns to arrest him. Since that time, the arrest has been the subject of a police internal investigation."I have some of the same concerns that the chief has expressed over the video. I'm going to let the release of that speak for itself, but yes, I definitely have concerns after watching that video,” Barrett said. The mayor indicated that Police Chief Alfonso Morales had a similar reaction after seeing the video. Brown was not charged in the incident. However, he did receive a parking citation. 1089
.“You are going to see operators move to the brink of foreclosure,” said Pinnegar. The courts are expected to rule on the lawsuit over the CDC’s mandate by the end of October, and there is a chance the courts could block or end the eviction moratorium at that time. 2364
