SANDUSKY, Ohio — Weather conditions are to blame for the GateKeeper roller coaster stopping mid-ride at Cedar Point on Wednesday night, Cedar Point officials said.Video taken by parkgoer Shannon Drown Ebeling shows the GateKeeper roller coaster moving back and forth on a specific part of the track.A spokesperson for Cedar Point said at approximately 9:30 p.m. the GateKeeper failed to complete its full circuit due to weather conditions. The train came to a stop on a section of the track near the main entrance."The ride’s safety systems engaged as designed and an additional train was stopped on the lift hill. Guests in both trains were escorted safely from the ride," said a Cedar Point spokesperson. The GateKeeper ride should be open Thursday. 762

Right now, we all need to be focused on fighting the virus, not each other. I’m willing to work with anyone as long as we get the personal protective equipment we need for the people of Michigan. https://t.co/sVZry3weUw— Governor Gretchen Whitmer (@GovWhitmer) March 27, 2020 288

Recovering drug users are using exercise to help overcome their addictions through a unique recovery program.“I love it,” Trevor Blose says. “Nothing feels better than getting out and sweating a little bit and showing yourself you can do something maybe you couldn’t do a month ago.” Blose is battling a drinking problem that cost him his freedom. “Unfortunately, because of my actions, I had to go to jail for a little bit,” he says. “There’s nothing as eye opening as seeing the person you think you are being in a place surrounded by people who you don’t think you are.”In an attempt to take control of his life, Blose now surrounds himself with other recovering addicts at The Phoenix in downtown Denver, a self-described “free sober active community,” where the only membership fee is 48 hours of continuous sobriety. “The people here saw value in me before I saw value in myself,” says Andrew Brough, manager of The Phoenix’s Denver chapter. Brough says The Phoenix has help more than 2,600 people at their chapters across the country. He says that the toughest part of this recovery program is taking that first step. “We always say that door weighs a couple thousand pounds the first time you come in here,” Brough says. “But if you can get in here and experience that first Phoenix moment for yourself, it’s going to make a world of difference.”Some healthcare specialists, however, claim exercise alone isn’t enough overcome addiction. They say though being active can help, it’s just part of very complex road to recovery. Instead, counselors advise using exercise in addition to more traditional approaches like medicine, therapy and a 12-step program.“I’d been to multiple rehabs and AA, and I tried everything and it just didn’t work for me,” says member Drew Johnson. Johnson, who has tried various recovery programs available, says exercise is the only thing that’s worked for him. “I was a hardcore opiod addict,” Johnson says. “It started off with prescription pills and then it transformed to IV heroin use.” Johnson says The Phoenix has helped him get a grip on handling addiction. He’ll be sober for one year on July 4. 2153

Secret, a sponsor of the US Women's National Soccer team, is now supporting its members' fight for pay equity as well. The deodorant brand plans to make a "tangible commitment" to the team's demand for equal pay, it told CNN Business, contributing 9,000 to the US Women's National Team Players Association. In a full-page ad printed in Sunday's New York Times, Secret says it will donate ,000 for each of the 23 players on the World Cup winning team to help close the pay gap. Secret also urges the organization to "be on the right side of history.""Let's take this moment of celebration to propel women's sports forward," Secret says in the ad. "We urge the US Soccer Federation to be a beacon of strength and end gender pay inequality once and for all."Twenty-eight members of the USWNT sued the US Soccer Federation in March for alleged gender discrimination. The suit claims the federation pays the women less than members of the men's national team "for substantially equal work and by denying them at least equal playing, training, and travel conditions; equal promotion of their games; equal support and development for their games; and other terms and conditions of employment equal to the MNT."In one hypothetical case cited in the lawsuit, if the women's and men's teams both won 20 straight games in a season, the women would make 38% what the men do."What the USWNT players want more than anything is real, meaningful change," Becca Roux, the executive director of the US Women's National Team Players Association, told CNN Business.Secret, the first USWNT sponsor to publicly support the team's fight, also uses the ad to challenges other brands to support the team's quest for equal pay. When asked if it supports the team's demands for pay equity, a spokesperson for Budweiser maker Anheuser-Busch, another USWNT partner, said it "believes in equal pay for equal work."Nike, US Soccer's biggest partner, also says it's a strong advocate for pay equity. "Regarding gender equality, Nike has been an advocate for women and girls in the US and around the world," a spokesperson said.Minutes after the USWNT's World Cup win on July 7, Nike ran a 60-second ad celebrating the team's victory, centering on the concept that the USWNT's win is about more than just winning a soccer title. However, Nike itself has been criticized for reducing athletes' pay during their pregnancies -- a practice it said in May it would discontinue.Procter & Gamble, Secret's parent company, has a history of using advertising to highlight social causes, including the Always' "Like a Girl" campaign challenging gender stereotypes, Pantene's "Strong is Beautiful" campaign showing NFL players braiding their daughters' hair, and Gillette's "We Believe" ad examining "toxic masculinity."Secret 2802

SALEM, Ma. – To say legends never die in Salem would be an understatement. The crisp leaves and the sound of the harbor embraces you in its Americana state that you can’t help but fall in love with. And embracing that legacy, is what truly makes this town alive.“In October, it’s what we call the fifth season,” said Jill Christiansen, the assistant education director of the Salem Witch Museum.Every October, people are in Salem celebrating Halloween – every day of the month. But what is it about this place that draws us in? Why are we obsessed with the history, the secrets and the mystery?“Salem is most known today for the witch trials of 1692,” Christiansen said. “The twenty people who were executed in 1692 were innocent people. They were accused of witchcraft for any number of reasons, but they were innocent people.”People come from all over the country and the world to see the history of the witch trials. For Tina Fogel, Salem means so much more. “Is the history but it’s also my fifty ninth birthday today and it’s always been on my bucket list to come to Salem,” Fogel said while getting emotional. “We’ve had a rough couple of years. My daughter took her own life and I got the inheritance from her and that’s why I was able to come here. She would be so excited to know that I’m here.”History can be appreciated year-round, but Salem’s true colors are seen in the fall. The streets are filled with the wicked, the terrifying and just straight weird. People are wearing costumes, vendors are on the streets, hotels are almost always full, and restaurants packed. But it wasn’t always this way. Some say Salem is what it is today because of the very thing that legends say cursed it. “People kept asking me why I keep going back to Salem,” said a man who goes by the name Bubble Bob. “They say it’s a gutter. I say ‘yeah, but it’s my gutter.’ Fifteen to twenty years later, it’s a tourist entertainment spot. So, in a place where it was maybe not so healthy to get brought up is now a healthy environment. When I say it use to be a gutter, I mean a lot of people were dying from drugs and suicide. Twenty years later – nothing but improvement.”“In 1969, the show Bewitched came and filmed several episodes,” said Christiansen. “Because of that, it really put Salem back on the map again as connected to the witch trials. The tourism industry and many people attribute the town starting to grow right after that.” According to Destination Salem, from September to November about 500,000 people visit from all over the world. 9 million a year is generated through tourism alone, and thirty percent of that comes in the month of October.“We see approximatively 60,000 people in the month of October,” Christiansen said. “I believe the population of Salem at this point is 43,000. That gives you some perspective on just how many people come through here.”So why are we so drawn to this place? It’s the curiosity, the obsession, the wildly weird that allows this town to not be afraid to just be itself. And maybe, we envy that. So, to say Salem is embracing its legacy would be an understatement. 3122
