BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Study found that women who took multivitamins may actually be at risk, media reports on Wednsday.Women who took the dietary supplements vitamin B6, folic acid, magnesium, zinc, copper, iron and multivitamins had a higher risk of death than women who did not.The new study, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, examined more than 38,000 women aged 55 and older who took part in the Iowa Women's Health Study, which started in the mid 1980s. Researchers found the vitamins did nothing to reduce the risk of death and that most supplements have no positive effect on women's health. The study did not distinguish if the women in the study took the vitamins to fight diseases or to maintain health.Vitamin experts say the best way to make sure you are getting all necessary vitamins is to eat a well-balanced diet. The vitamins people take do not depend on personal preference.
PARIS, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- People come to the French capital will be able to enjoy a new public service by leasing electric cars in the urban region from Sunday. This car-sharing system is aimed to reduce the number of private cars as well as restrain pollution, according to the Paris municipal government. The plan, dubbed "the Autolib" system, is similar to already functioning "velib system" which is a large-scale public bicycle sharing system in Paris launched in 2007.The first experimental stage of the Autolib project is said to last two month with 66 cars at 33 stations around the city.Costumers can pay between 5 euros and 7 euros (6.7-9.4 U.S. dollars) for every half-hour use or register for a yearly, weekly or 24-hour package with different cost and necessary identity cards, driving licences and an uncashed deposit.Once fully charged, the four-seated "Bluecar" can reach a top speed of 130 km an hour and has a range of 250 km with a single charge. In order to encourage short journey rather than long trip around the capital, Paris administration wants to expand the system to a 250-car team by this December, and then to 2,000 by next summer.

BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's official website for booking train tickets received a daily average of more than 1 billion hits during the first week of January, according to a railway official.Hu Yadong, vice minister of railways, said Sunday that the online ticket sales platform has provided consumers with a convenient way to buy tickets. He also addressed complaints about the fairness of the sales process."Train tickets sold online or by telephone have topped 2 million daily, meaning that around one-third of passengers don't have to wait in line at train stations for several hours to get a ticket," Hu said. However, many Chinese have expressed dissatisfaction with the website, with some people unable to get train tickets home for this year's Spring Festival holiday, a major holiday in China.Several customers posted their complaints on popular microblogging website weibo.com, stating that the booking site often failed due to "too many visits at the same time."The Spring Festival holiday is always a difficult time for China's public transportation authorities. A total of 3.16 billion passenger trips are expected during the holiday, up 9.1 percent from a year earlier, of which 235 million trips will be made via the country's railways, up 6.1 percent year-on-year, said Hu.This year's transport rush in the Spring Festival Season started on Sunday and will end on Feb. 16, according to the Ministry of Railways.
