1.4 million Americans filed initial claims for unemployment last week, according to weekly statistics from the Department of Labor.That's a slight uptick — about 20,000 additional claims — from the previous week's figures. Last week's report also indicated a slight increase in unemployment claims, the first increase in several months.Thursday's report marks the 19th straight week in which more than a million Americans have filed claims for unemployment.
