SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego FBI agents are asking the public for help find a suspect who robbed a bank in the College Area Wednesday.The man, described as a black man in his late 30s to early 40s and standing about 6-feet tall, entered a Union Bank branch in the 6000 block of El Cajon Blvd. at about 11 a.m. Investigators say the man handed a teller a demand note and received an undisclosed amount of cash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Thursday that several more shoreline park areas and piers and boardwalks would be reopened this week amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Mayor Faulconer says the following will be reopened in June and July:June 8: East and West Mission Bay Parks will be open for park and water use, including parking lots at 100% capacity.June 8: Fiesta Island opens to pedestrians, dogs, and cyclists only.June 9: All piers and boardwalks within city limits reopen.June 12: Balboa Park Central Mesa reopens and all Balboa Park parking lots open at 100% capacity.July 6: Fiesta Island opens to vehicles.Gatherings are still prohibited and social distancing is still required at beaches and parks. Mayor Faulconer said active sports at the beach are still banned as well."We're continuing to make meaningful progress as we continue to reopen across San Diego," Faulconer said.This week, county beaches allowed visitors to sit, sunbathe, and relax on the sand, in addition to passive activities like walking and running.Ocean activities, like swimming, surfing, kayaking, and paddle-boarding continue to be allowed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego lawmakers responded Friday to President Donald Trump’s comments about border wall construction and funding as the government shutdown stretched into day 13. Trump declared he could keep parts of the government closed for "months or even years" as he and Democratic leaders failed in a second closed-door meeting to resolve his demand for billions of dollars for a border wall with Mexico. “We did a lot of wall in San Diego,” Trump said at a White House news conference. “They wanted it very badly.” Trump cited concerns about the U.S.-Mexico border, including entry by terrorists, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. San Diego County’s congressional representatives emailed comments to 10News regarding the president’s statements. “San Diegans view our proximity to Mexico as an opportunity, not a threat, and we recently celebrated building a bridge between our two countries – not a wall – a bridge with adequate customs staffing so people can travel back and forth easily, and legally,” wrote Rep. Scott Peters. “San Diegans want smart, innovative border security – not the wasteful wall that President Trump wants to build as a monument to himself.” Congressman Duncan Hunter, San Diego County’s lone Republican representative, issued a statement through his public information officer. “Congressman Hunter believes President Trump needs to stand strong on the issue of border security and his description of it as a ‘national emergency’ means he has a firm grasp of its importance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego firefighters came to the rescue of a Mountain View family after they lost their home to a fire the day after Christmas.The fire left seven people displaced after tearing through the home just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Teak Street near Ocean View Boulevard. The fire burned through one of two homes on the lot and the family says they had to pull bars off the window to escape the fire, leaving four people injured.While crews responded and were able to get the fire quickly under control, the family lost everything — including Christmas presents that two little girls who lived in the burned home had unwrapped just one day earlier.That's when San Diego Fire-Rescue stepped in. Sunday, firefighters from Stations 12 and 19 delivered gift cards, toys, and clothing to help the family through their loss. "The gifts were courtesy of the San Diego City Fire Fighters Local 145. The family was very appreciative of this wonderful surprise that illustrates the generous spirit of the holiday season," the department said on social media.The family has also started a GoFundMe to help with expenses due to the fire. 1149
