SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego museums are getting ready to welcome thousands of visitors as Museum Month approaches. This year, Museum Month spans between February 1 and the 29. Throughout the month, San Diegans and visitors can pick up a special pass to save 50 percent at more than 40 museums throughout the city. The free passes are available at dozens of San Diego County libraries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego marijuana supporters are being invited to legally celebrate 4-20 at an Embarcadero Park festival but organizers remind attendees that smoking in public remains illegal.Legal weed supporters will gather in Embarcadero Park North for Bayked?SD, a festival meant to celebrate marijuana and the unique holiday with educational seminars and various musical acts."Regardless of the origin of 4-20, it now marks a community celebration of a makeshift holiday where friends gather to enjoy life and spread the feel-good (sp) vibes year after year," organizers wrote online.RELATED: City of Chula Vista gives legal marijuana sales the green lightFestival organizers cautioned there will be no marijuana products of any kind sold on the premises, noting while it's legal to smoke marijuana in California it's not legal to smoke in public.A variety of cannabis brand vendors will be in attendance and sessions to provide education on recreational marijuana will be held.An insider with the festival told 10News that organizers will incorporate a combination of pre-event and on-site precautions to deter marijuana consumption.Organizers will remind attendees on-site and through email prior to the event that marijuana is not allowed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have made an arrest in the death of a 20-year-old in the Bay Terraces area last year.Police said 26-year-old John Orozco was arrested Wednesday for the murder of Joaquin Ruiz of San Diego.On July 12, 2019, Ruiz was found in a vehicle off the side of the road just before midnight in the 7000 block of Paradise Valley Rd. He was suffering from a bullet wound to his upper body.Police began first aid at the scene, but Ruiz died of his injuries on the way to the hospital.The investigation into Orozco is ongoing, and no other details surrounding his arrest or involvement in the murder were released.SDPD asked that anyone who may have information related to the case to call the department's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 800

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County's recovering job market will take a hit from the new wave of coronavirus-related restrictions that went into effect this week, SANDAG's chief economist said Thursday. The region's jobless rate had been falling from a peak of 25% in early May to 14.3% in late June, the San Diego Association of Governments reported Thursday. However, on July 6, new restrictions went into effect to slow the spread of COVID 19. Restaurants and several other public-facing businesses were forced to end indoor service, while bars that don't serve food were required to close. That sent people who had returned to work back to seeking unemployment."Until there's a vaccine in place, it's going to be a very bumpy ride," said Ray Major, SANDAG's chief economist. "It's going to be up and down. There will be times probably where they say OK we can start opening up again, and then for some reason the health numbers start to become worse, and so the economy is going to be impacted again."At Little Italy's Cloak and Petal restaurant, managing partner Cesar Vallin said only about half of the restaurant's 40 workers have been brought back. He said the restaurant changed its menu and moved service outside, but the lower capacity is hitting revenue. "Let's just face it, this could happen two or three more times by end of the year," Vallin said. "If it does, we've got to get really good at opening and closing turn key."SANDAG estimates 240,000 San Diegans are currently unemployed.Faisal Asseri, Cloak and Petal's Bar Director, started receiving unemployment insurance this week again after returning to work. "I would like to say that I'm doing better than what it kind of looks like out there," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Fire crews responded to a first-alarm brush fire in an east San Diego neighborhood Saturday.The fire ignited near the 5700 block of Bates Street around 1 p.m. in the Redwood Village neighborhood of east San Diego. Within 15 minutes, crews had stamped out the half-acre fire.No evacuations were ordered, according to SDFD.The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. 405
