SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new report by the San Diego Food System Alliance, expected to be released in January, calls for major changes to how food is produced and distributed across the county. The findings suggest that many neighborhoods are disadvantaged by limited access to fresh, healthy food.“Our goal here is to unite people behind cultivating a healthier, more sustainable, and more just food system," said Alliance spokesperson Margaret Chiu.Chiu suggests a significant solution would be less reliance on large corporate food system suppliers, and more access to locally farmed and sourced foods. “We want better grocery stores. we want community gardens or we want access to places where we can grow our own food," Chiu said.She says the whole community benefits when it is easier to turn blighted properties into urban farming or community gardens.The Alliance hopes to work with county and city leaders to make their suggestions into policy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized after being shot as he sat in his car at a Southcrest park, San Diego police said.The incident happened just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of Newton Avenue, according to police.The 26-year-old victim and a 19-year-old man were sitting in a BMW when two men walked up to the car. Police said the two men pounded on the car’s windows before they opened fire.The victim was shot in the left thigh and left wrist, police said. The 19-year-old was not hurt.The victim drove the bullet-riddled BMW away from the park and called 911 to report the shooting. Police made contact with the BMW on National Avenue and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.According to police, the suspected shooters are believed to have fled the park in a white pickup truck. Twelve shell casings were recovered at the scene, police added.Descriptions of the two suspected shooters were not immediately available. 984

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man who admitted to several "Peeping Tom" instances in the Pacific Beach area was sentenced Wednesday.James Wayne Hubbard, 48, was sentenced to 364 days in jail for the series of incidents between Sept. 11 and Oct. 12.Hubbard pleaded guilty to three counts of peeping and prowling as part of a plea deal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man is in custody after a chase ended in a standoff with police at a Mission Bay Motel Sunday morning. Police say the chase started just before 9 a.m. at the A-1 Storage on Garnett Avenue after officers received a citizens' tip. The suspect driving a U-Haul truck led police on a short chase to the 4300 block of Mission Bay Drive near Roadway in San Diego.According to police, the man is wanted on felony weapons charges. After the chase ended, a woman in the passenger seat was detained while the driver ran into the nearby motel. The woman was later released. While searching for the suspect throughout the motel, officers learned that the man broke through several walls to try and escape. “This guy starts forcing himself into apartments, and now we have to deal with a possible hostage situation. That’s the reason why we brought so many resources down here. We wanted to get this guy into custody as fast as we can," Lt. Christian Sharp with the San Diego Police Department said. Eventually, police had to use chemical gas and a K-9 to apprehend the suspect, who has yet to be identified.  1166
