SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Voters in San Diego County will have fewer places to vote in person for the 2020 Presidential Election, but officials say they've increased the opportunities people have to make sure their vote counts.On Wednesday, the county released the final list of 235 "Super Poll" locations, where people can vote in person. Every voter will be assigned to one of those polls.That's down from around 1,600 polling places during the primary."Certainly our world has been upended when it comes down to all things elections," says Michael Vu, the County Registrar of Voters.Vu told ABC 10News the county had to do fewer, larger polling sites to accommodate for social distancing required by coronavirus guidelines. But, he adds that voters will have four days to cast their ballot in person.Those Super Poll locations will be open on Oct. 31, Nov. 1, and Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. On Election Day, they'll be open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.Even with the extra days and hours for in-person voting, Vu says the best option for voters is to use the mail-in ballot that every registered voter in San Diego will receive around Oct. 6."We, in our county, have had a tradition and culture of voting by mail," says Vu, noting that 76.5% of all registered voters already signed up to be a permanent mail ballot voter.Vu says he has complete confidence that the post office will deliver ballots to voters and return them to the Registrar on time.For people who don't want to put their ballot in the mail, the Registrar is also setting up 126 ballot-drop off sites across the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two teens are dead after a car reportedly struck a freeway guardrail in Mission Valley, before flipping over into an embankment and bursting into flames.Witnesses told CHP they saw a car speeding on the ramp from westbound Interstate 8 to southbound State Route 163 just after 3 a.m. Saturday. The car hit a guardrail and flipped over the edge of the freeway and fell down onto an embankment below, CHP says.By the time authorities arrived on scene, the vehicle was on fire.Three of the four occupants, including the driver, were pulled from the wreckage and taken to a nearby hospital. Officers tried to pull the fourth person from the vehicle, but say flames overtook the car.After the Medical Examiner arrived to help retrieve the fourth person, they said a second body was found in the charred wreck. It was unclear it the fifth occupant was killed in the crash or fire.The two victims were described as being 15 years old.CHP said they suspect drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Because of that, the driver could be charged with manslaughter, CHP says.The crash closed the onramps from southbound SR-163 to westbound I-8 and WB I-8 to SB SR-163. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two San Diego police officers responding to a call for a shoplifter in Ocean Beach ended up buying the suspect clothes and shoes instead of arresting him.It happened on Jan. 6 around 5 a.m. at the location on Sunset Cliffs Blvd. SDPD officers Christian Nimmons and Dominic Collins said employees at the drugstore reported that a homeless man had come in, stolen a sweatshirt and refused to leave.The store declined to press charges but wanted the man out of the store.But knowing it was very cold outside, and seeing the man also didn't have a shirt or socks and shoes, the officers decided to buy them for him."We looked at each other, asked how much the sweatshirt was going to cost, and had the same mutual decision of giving him the sweatshirt," said Collins.Both men told 10News it was simply the right thing to do and part of their job as officers to show compassion for those they come in contact with."I think he was more shocked that cops were doing something for him," Nimmons said. "We couldn't leave him like that. That was really it. It's what we joined to do. To help people."The man, only known to the officers as Daniel, reportedly put on the items and left. 1201

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Witnesses say a woman was driving at least 100 mph before she crashed into a power pole in the Oak Park area and died early Sunday morning.The crash happened in the 2000 block of 54th Street around 1:30 a.m.According to witnesses, the woman was traveling at approximately 100 mph when she struck a curb, skidded out of control and hit a power pole.The 33-year-old became pinned inside the vehicle after the crash. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to cut the woman out of the vehicle.The woman died at the scene due to her injuries. At this time, police say they don’t know whether or not drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. 672
