A poll commissioned by CNN and conducted by SSRS showed a majority of Americans are embarrassed by how the US has responded to the coronavirus pandemic, and are angry about the way things are going in the nation. The poll conducted August 12 through 15 was released on Wednesday.The poll surveyed 1,108 Americans, 31% of whom are Democrats, 27% of whom are Republicans, and the remaining 42% being either independent or a third-party supporter.The poll has a 3.7% margin of error.Here are the highlights:68% of Americans are embarrassed by America’s coronavirus response, compared to 28% who say they’re proud51% said they’re “very angry” about the direction of the country; 27% said they’re somewhat angry57% said there should not be in-person learning in their community, compared to 37% who said their local schools should be open for in-person learning49% said that pro sports should not be played, compared to 46% who say games should be playedAs far as marks on President Donald Trump, 51% approve of his handling of the economy, compared to 44% who disapprove. When the poll was last conducted in June, only 40% of Americans said they personally knew someone who was infected by the virus. A passenger on board an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Nashville is being evaluated after reporting a serious illness.  Details were limited at this time. A Michigan couple that was married for 47 years both died from COVID-19 just a minute apart from each other.Patricia and Leslie McWaters were both born in Jackson, Michigan, and married on April 16, 1973. A Minneapolis police officer was charged Tuesday with third-degree murder in the death of Justine Ruszczyk, a 40-year-old Australian woman who was shot in 2017 after she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault near her home.Officer Mohamed Noor turned himself in to authorities, said Sherral Schmidt of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis.Noor is being charged with third-degree murder -- "perpetrating an eminently dangerous act and evincing a depraved mind" -- as well as second-degree manslaughter -- "culpable negligence creating unreasonable risk," according to the Hennepin County Jail website.In July, Ruszczyk called 911 late at night to report a possible sexual assault in an alley near her home. Fewer than 30 minutes later, she was dead from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. One of the two officers who responded to the call shot the unarmed woman.Officer Matthew Harrity told investigators that he drove to the scene and was startled by a "loud sound" near the squad car, according to Minnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.Immediately afterward, Ruszczyk approached the window on the driver's side, and Noor, Harrity's partner, shot Ruszczyk through the window, Harrity said.Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman told reporters on Tuesday afternoon that Noor's actions did not reflect the training he and Harrity received on responding to possible threats to their safety."There is no evidence that Officer Noor encountered a threat, appreciated a threat, investigated a threat or confirmed a threat that justified his decision to use deadly force," Freeman said.The prosecutor said some police officers would not cooperate with the investigation and volunteer information about the incident.Noor's attorney, Tom Plunkett, said Ruszczyk's death "is a tragedy and Officer Noor again personally extends his continued condolences to her family for their loss.""The facts will show that Officer Noor acted as he has been trained and consistent with established departmental policy. A security camera captured video of an officer in Asyut, Egypt catching a 5-year-old boy who jumped off a third-story balcony on Saturday. The video was released by Egypt's Ministry of Interior. In the video, three officers are seen looking up, as one officer grabs some fabric. A few seconds later, the boy, identified by CBS News as Ammar Motaz Abd El-Salam, lands into the arms of Kameel Fathy Geed, 45. The force of the boy falling was enough to knock over the officer. Officer, with the boy in his arms, falls to the ground, but his fall was softened by the fabric. The Ministry of Interior said that no one suffered any major injuries. In an interview with Egyptian TV network Dream TV, the boy's mother said El-Salem reportedly climbed onto a small table during a party. The boy then toppled, forcing the officers to spring into action. The mother added that no one at the party noticed. 942
