SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Secretary of the Interior stated in no uncertain terms in a letter sent to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Thursday federal law supersedes state law. This was in reference to an ordinance the San Diego County Board of Supervisors passed in November banning recreational shooting, saying it was unconstitutional.Currently the law states you can shoot at targets on BLM land, "as long as it is done in a safe manner, without damaging natural resources or improvements on public lands." There is a section that states you may not fire any plastic pellets, exploding, tracer or steel core rounds. He also said the board never spoke to the federal government."When he [the Secretary of the Interior] found out the entire department said no this isn’t something we’re going to stand by at all," Schwartz said. "The gun owners consider this a huge win, it shows what activism can do and when people band together and get involved we can stop unconstitutional regulations by elected officials abusing their power," he said, adding he hopes to see the ordinance removed from the books. 2485

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thirty roosters abandoned last month are in need of a new home.The roosters were left at an Escondido feed store on Dec. 28, 2019, with a note from the owner explaining they could no longer take care of them, the San Diego Humane Society says.SDHS says the roosters all appear to be healthy and social with each other and humans.Anyone interested in adopting the roosters can do so through SDHS' Escondido campus. Officials advise potential new owners to check with their city to make sure they are allowed to have a rooster, as some city ordinances prohibit the animals.Anyone who is unable to care for their pets are also advised to take them to a SDHS campus rather than abandoning them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ridesharing company, Lyft, is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in ride credits to immigration groups throughout the country, including one in San Diego County. The company made the donation announcement on Monday, donating 0,000, calling the campaign "America is an Idea, Not a Geography." The Minority Humanitarian Foundation in Spring Valley received roughly ,000 in ride credits. The foundation's founder, Mark Lane, says the company's donation is a game changer for his organization. Lane explains that the money previously spent on rides can now go towards other things like food, clothing and other supplies. 10News spoke to multiple Lyft drivers in San Diego who said they wouldn't mind providing rides to migrants, as long as their pay didn't change. A few Lyft users told 10News they don't agree with Lyft's donation but said they would still continue to use the service.During the month of July, Lyft is also matching donations to RAICES up to ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Threats from President Donald Trump to move forward with ICE raids aren't stopping a Barrio Logan organization from patrolling the streets and alerting the community when agents are in their neighborhoods. Union Del Barrio is a 38-year-old organization. In the last year, they started the community patrols to warn neighbors of their rights, if ICE shows up at their door. Benjamin Prado is a member of Union Del Barrio. He says volunteers patrol in Logan Heights, Barrio Logan, Shelltown, City Heights and Linda Vista. Prado says they never interfere with the ICE agents doing their job, only document what they see. The organization is also training volunteers in other cities, including Los Angeles. Prado says they feel ICE shouldn't exist at all and that these patrols are to challenge the administration, trying to stop them from terrorizing and separating their families with deportations. On Saturday, Trump said the administration would move forward with ICE raids "fairly soon". Late Sunday afternoon, the president also tweeted in response to a New York Times article saying in part "people should not be entering the country illegally" while also praising the work of Border Patrol and others in law enforcement. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Registrar of Voters is asking those who received mail ballots to check their mail ballot packets, according to County News Center. Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said his office has received more than a dozen reports of missing mail ballots in the election packets for the June 5 Gubernatorial Primary. According to the registrar, as many as 1,500 ballots could be affected. Though that number is small compared to the total number of ballots, Vu said his office wants to make sure every voter gets the ballot they asked for.RELATED: Early voting begins in San Diego ahead of June 5 primary election  Nearly 1.1 million mail ballots were sent to county voters last week.
