SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As a woman lay paralyzed from a horrific accident, police say someone was inside her car, stealing from her.  The search for that thief is now turning to San Diego County."She was the nicest, most wonderful person I've ever known," said Don Nelson.Nelson says his wife of 27 years, Terri, was on her way to pick up her father for a hospital trip in August when a truck rear-ended her car at a stoplight in Riverside.  As she lay with her neck broken, amid the commotion of bystanders and first responders coming to her aid, police say someone got into her car and stole her purse.Detectives say within days of the accident, surveillance images show her using Terri's credit cards and writing checks in her name. Nelson says as some ,000 worth of purchases were made at various businesses, from fast food restaurants and Albertsons to Costco."I think that's the lowest form of life that could possibly be. You have to be a sorry person to do something like that," said Nelson.For three months, Terri was paralyzed and on a ventilator, until she passed last week from complications from the accident.  Her husband's grief is not the only emotion that consumes him. There is also anger. He's still dealing with collection agencies seeking money from the thief's shopping spree.  During that crime spree, police believe the woman rented a Nissan Rogue in Terri's name, before the CHP pulled that car over on a highway in San Diego County. The two men inside the car have yet to lead detectives to the woman, but police hope tips from the public will."I just can't believe a lightning bolt didn't strike the person. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As if San Diego's craft beer scene doesn't already have enough options, the legalization of marijuana has created new opportunities for companies interested in the world of the cannabis-infused.Enter High Style, a San Diego-based brewery launching a THC-infused, non-alcoholic beer called "Pale Haze." The drink incorporates the traditional flavors of beer using Amarillo and Cascade hops, as well as 10mg of THC.The beer has a "light, crisp, and extremely effervescent" flavor, according to the brewery, with notes of tropical fruit and citrus.RELATED: Blue Moon founder now brewing THC-infused craft beerHigh Style's Vice President of Marketing Jared Threw said the brewery's brewmaster worked over 12 months on the process to create the alcohol-free beer — though there are small traces of alcohol, as with most non-alcoholic beers. However, Threw said their goal was to perfect the beer so that it didn't taste like a typical non-alcoholic beer and much like a craft beer instead.Though the feeling of drinking a traditional beer shouldn't be lost, according to the company. High Style says consumers will feel a "fast onset similar to drinking an alcoholic beer," with a "light, clear headed, and euphoric high." But those effects could be different person to person."We recommend if someone isn't a heavy cannabis user, to start with half a beer, wait 1-2 hours for the effects to fully settle, and then have more as needed for the desired level," Threw said.Currently, the beer is only available at the dispensaries March and Ash in Mission Valley and Mankind Cooperative in Miramar. Though before High Style labels itself as a trailblazer, Threw said there's still room for others to help expand the market."It is hard for us to be an accurate example of the difficulty level since we are such a unique product type," Threw said. "We don't have a tasting room or restaurant at this time, so we aren't competing for sales in that way. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Californians voted to pass Proposition 22 – reclassifying rideshare drivers as independent contractors. But, companies like Uber and Lyft are still battling lawsuits from the state claiming billions in wage theft.The legal battle over rideshare drivers did not end with the passing of Prop 22. The California Labor Commissioner is still suing gig companies for not following current law which classifies drivers as employees instead of independent contractors.The Labor Commissioner’s Office is seeking billions for unpaid minimum wage, overtime, sick leave, and business expenses.Nicole Moore with Rideshare Drivers United led the fight against Prop 22. She says since the new law is not retroactive those lawsuits still stand.“This is about back pay that under the law as it was over the last three years, those drivers are still owed that money,” said Moore. “It was .3 billion that were owed to those drivers. Half of that is damages but the other half is just straight pay that under labor law.”Some drivers had to file for unemployment when the pandemic hit, including those with pre-existing conditions hoping to limit exposure to the virus. Others are unable to drive since they have to stay home with kids now out of school for distance learning.Moore says those unemployment protections won’t last once the new law takes over.“If you don’t have unemployment that’s when people become homeless, that’s when kids go hungry. We need that safety net as workers,” said Moore.As San Diego moves into the state’s purple tier, Tonje Ettesvoll says she’ll have to limit hours to reduce her risk of exposure. She says the move for her own safety may prevent her from qualifying for benefits under Prop 22.“I will not be doing my 60 hours a week. I’ll be doing maybe 30 so I may be one of those people who don’t qualify and will have to be on Medi-Cal,” said Ettesvoll. “And that is an expense that’s not Uber’s and Lyft’s. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Community members are calling for a San Diego County Sheriff's deputy to be removed from duty.They claim he roughed up a local woman during a traffic stop on Oct. 1."I'm afraid for my life," said Shynita Phillips Abu. "I'm afraid to be targeted again, and I don't feel good at all."Standing outside the main building of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, Shynita Phillips Abu described a violent encounter with a deputy.ABC 10News is not naming the alleged deputy involved at this point in the department's investigation.Abu said she was pulled over on CA 67 shortly after leaving the Lakeside Post Office."He came up to my window, and I rolled my window down, and he told me I'm pulling you over because you have a third brake light out," Abu said. "I asked the officer, what is a third brake light? I've never heard of a third brake light before, and I did inform him that everything works on my vehicle."Abu said her phone rang during their brief conversation."I got a phone call from the guy from the post office, and that's when the deputy went belligerent," she said. "He started to yell, ‘Get off the phone, put the phone down now.’"She said the deputy moved from the passenger's side to the driver's side of her vehicle and tried to get in."I'm asking him why are you arresting me," Abu said. "He said on video that I was not under arrest and I continued to record, and my husband called me and he (the deputy) told me stop calling people, stop calling people.”Abu continued to describe a chaotic situation. She said the deputy slapped her cell phone to the ground and got her out of her car."He pulled me by my hair and yanked me out of my car by force," she said. "At this point, he already had my arm. I have bruises all over my arm from his holding my arm so hard."Abu said she was handcuffed and put in the back of a car for hours, while she was taken from one facility to another. She said first they went to Las Colinas Detention facility, but she was rejected, then deputies took her to a hospital, and eventually they returned to Las Colinas.Abu said after about six hours, she was just released at a trolley stop and not charged with a crime.ABC 10News asked the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for the deputy's body camera recording. A spokesperson said they aren’t releasing it at this time.In an email, the department spokesperson said, "We are aware of the incident and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
