VISTA (CNS) - A man who pushed a 94-year-old woman through a screen door and onto a concrete deck in Oceanside leading to her death 11 days later was convicted today of second-degree murder and elder abuse causing great bodily injury.William Forrest Sutton, 68, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 17. On April 16, 2016, 94-year-old Margaret Wood went to her friend's home to get some belongings and got into an argument with Sutton, her friend's caretaker.Surveillance video of the altercation shows Sutton pushing Wood out of her friend's home, prosecutors said.Sutton fled the senior community but was arrested the next day and charged with attempted murder, which was modified to murder upon Wood's death. 725

Walgreens has finally figured out a way to buy Rite Aid -- or about half of it, at least.The pharmacy giant said Tuesday that federal regulators have accepted its .4 billion deal to buy 1,932 Rite Aid stores. That will leave Rite Aid with about 2,600 stores once the deal is finished.The purchase marks the end of a two-years-long fight for Walgreens, which initially tried to buy Rite Aid outright for billion in October 2015.The merger agreement faced intense scrutiny from the start, since it would have left the United States with just two major pharmacy chains: Walgreens and CVS.The agreement was reworked several times over the past few years as Walgreens scaled back the number of stores it intended to purchase. In June, the company tried for a .2 billion deal that would have handed it 2,186 Rite Aid stores.Walgreens recently revised its deal again, said company spokesman Michael Polzin. Polzin said that the waiting period for review by the Federal Trade Commission expired last night at midnight, effectively giving Walgreens the regulatory clearance it needs to move forward.The Rite Aid pharmacies that Walgreens plans to buy will eventually be rebranded as Walgreens stores. (KGTV and CNS) - A Camp Pendleton Marine accused of driving drunk and causing a wrong-way crash that killed a father of two on a rural Bonsall-area road early on New Year's Day pleaded not guilty Friday. Adam Daniel Barooshian, 25, was allegedly speeding to the east on the westbound side of state Route 76 near Via Monserate shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday when his Lexus IS 300 hit an oncoming motorcycle ridden by 29-year-old Christopher Williams of Oceanside. At the time of the deadly collision, Williams was on his way home from his job as a security guard and emergency medical technician at Pauma Casino, according to the Oceanside Police Officers' Association, which employs the victim's wife as a public-safety dispatcher. Williams died at the scene of the crash. Medics took Barooshian to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of superficial injuries. About six hours after the deadly wreck, the Massachusetts native was booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and murder. A judge denied Barooshian’s bail Friday, saying he was a danger to the public after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor DUI in 2018.
