LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says Christmas gatherings can’t go ahead and non-essential shops must close in London and much of southern England as he imposed a new, higher level of coronavirus restrictions to curb sharply spreading infections. Johnson said the capital and other areas in southern England will move to an even stricter Tier 4 alert category that requires non-essential shops, hairdressers and indoor leisure venues to close after the end of business hours Saturday. Johnson also said that a planned five-day easing of socializing rules that would allow up to three households to meet in “Christmas bubbles” will be canceled for Tier 4 areas. (KGTV) - A man with a handgun prompted a standoff with police near Long Beach City Hall Wednesday.A "hysterical female" called 911 to reported her husband was armed at a federal building, according to ABC affiliate KABC. Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputies and Long Beach Police responded to the suspect in the 300 block of Ocean Blvd. just before 4 p.m., where the standoff began.LASD said the suspect had a "possible improvised explosive device" in his vehicle.SWAT officers and bomb squad officers were at the scene as the man has stood outside a van with his arms raised. LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities say they have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies as they sat in their squad car.District Attorney Jackie Lacy on Wednesday says attempted murder charges have been filed against 36-year-old Deonte Lee Murray. He was arrested two weeks ago in connection with a separate carjacking.The deputies suffered critical wounds in the Sept. 12 shooting which was recorded by surveillance video.They have since been released from the hospital and are recovering at home. 555
