CINCINNATI — Women who've gone through mastectomy know the experience is life-altering. There are a range of reconstruction options, or survivors can choose to "go flat."If they do that, they might only use a silicone prosthesis. But volunteers with knitting needles at Mercy West Hospital are providing a second choice."It helps you relax," Vicki Wright said.Wright knits on her porch in Ross Township, Ohio, her knitting needles quietly clicking away."Each pair takes me 3 to 4 hours," she said.Wright's not talking about socks or blankets. She's creating a lifeline back to normalcy for women who will get her work."I find them really comfortable," Sue Yates said.Under her clothes, Yates is wearing "Knitted Knockers" — soft, comfortable prosthetics for breast cancer survivors.They first came to the attention of Dr. Anna Sobolewski, a breast surgeon at Mercy West, thanks to a patient who had had a double mastectomy. That woman learned about them in a support group and chose them over her heavier silicone prosthesis."When I saw her back in the office for a visit, she pulled out the knitted knocker from her bra and said, 'This is the best thing ever,'" Sobolewski said.Wanting to give her survivors another option, Sobolewski went to the auxiliary."And...asked me if volunteers would be interested in doing a project like this," said Alice Wanninger, Mercy West's director of volunteer and auxiliary services.They got on it, knitting all different cup sizes with guidelines: They must be 100% cotton — so they're soft and don't irritate surgical scars — and they have to be washable.Wright said she loves the work. For her, it's a chance to use the knitting knowledge passed to her by her grandmother to help others."She would be pleased, too," she said. "It was passed down – a family tradition with love."Wright has stitched about 50 pairs since she started the work last winter. That's making a difference for women who've gone flat after surgery.Sobolewski said Knitted Knockers fill a void as patients go through a tough journey. They help with self-image after surgery."I think it's an appearance thing – it's just all in how you want to feel about yourself," Yates said. "How you wanna look."She said they're more comfortable and not as heavy as the silicon."Women helping women — that's what it's about," Wanninger said. Comet NEOWISE may be on its way out, but that doesn't mean that the night sky's light show is set to end.According to the American Meteor Society, two meteor showers are set to peak in the coming days, which could result in several fireballs that light up the sky.One of those showers is the Southern Delta-Aquariids, which, according to NASA, are typically visible between July 12 and Aug. 23. But the agency reports that the system will peak in activity early Monday morning.At its viewing peak — in the southern hemisphere on a clear dark night — the Southern Delta-Aquariids can produce up to 25 meteors an hour, NASA says. Unfortunately, Americans won't be able to see that many fireballs, but experts still say some may still be visible — especially for those with minimal light pollution and clear skies.NASA says the Southern Delta-Aquariids will be most visible between moonset and first dawn on early Monday morning.The American Meteor Society also reports that the Alpha Capricornids will also peak early next week. While the AMS notes that the shower isn't particularly strong (about five meteors an hour), the meteors it does produce are particularly bright and visible.The AMS says the Alpha Capricornids will peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.According to the Associated Press, Comet NEOWISE will be visible in the night sky through mid-August before it heads back out toward the outer solar system. 1430

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan has died at the age of 77.A family spokesman says he died at his home Sunday in Danville, California.Morgan was suffering from a nerve condition, a form of polyneuropathy. He became the sparkplug of the Big Red Machine and the prototype for baseball’s artificial turf era.Morgan was a two-time NL Most Valuable Player, a 10-time All-Star, and won five Gold Gloves. He could hit a home run, steal a base, and disrupt any game with his daring.Most of all, the 5-foot-7 dynamo known for flapping his left elbow drove a Cincinnati team featuring the likes of Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, and Tony Perez to World Series titles in 1975 and '76.According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Morgan is the sixth Hall of Famer to die this year and the fifth in just five weeks.The other Hall of Famers that passed away were Al Kaline, Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, and Whitey Ford. 939

Citigroup has terminated a manager following an investigation into his role operating a prominent website dedicated to QAnon conspiracy theory, according to Bloomberg.Jason Gelinas was placed on paid leave in mid-September after he was identified by Logically.ai as the operator of QMap.pub and it’s affiliated apps.“Mr. Gelinas is no longer employed by Citi,” the company said in a statement to Bloomberg. “Our code of conduct includes specific policies that employees are required to adhere to, and when breaches are identified, the firm takes action.”Gelinas was a manager in Citigroup;s technology department. The company says employees have to disclose outside business activity where they receive compensation.Gelinas was reportedly earning about ,000 a month from a crowdfunding site supporting the QAnon site he ran. He says the money helped cover the monthly operating costs.QMap once drew a reported 10 million visitors a month over the summer. Once Gelinas was identified, the site was taken down.QAnon began a few years ago as a single conspiracy theory. It has grown in both followers and beliefs since then.The main conspiracy claims dozens of politicians and A-list celebrities work with governments around the world to engage in child sex abuse.
