A second autopsy on the in-custody death of Adrian Ingram-Lopez concludes the way three Tucson Police Officers restrained him contributed to his death. An earlier autopsy by the Pima County Medical Examiner attributed Ingram-Lopez's death to cocaine intoxication and a heart condition. An autopsy commissioned by Eduardo Coronado, the attorney for Ingram-Lopez family concluded those conditions alone were not enough to have killed the man. It concluded officers continuing to hold Ingram-Lopez face down, handcuffed, and with officers putting their weight on his back led to “positional asphyxia”---inability to breathe because of body position.Police were about to fire Officers Jonathan Jackson, Samuel Routledge, and Ryan Starbuck when the three resigned.RELATED: TIMELINE: What happened after a man died while in TPD custodyThe TPD report which recommended firing the officers noted Ryan Starbuck had more extensive medical training than the other two. He is a licensed Emergency Medical Technician. The Arizona Health Department shows an EMT license for a Ryan Starbuck still active. TPD says Starbuck has been an EMT for 14 years.Police body cameras show, when other officers arrived, they recognized Ingram-Lopez was in medical distress and had him re-positioned to allow better breathing. Officers called an ambulance and administered an antidote for opioid overdose but that drug does not work on cocaine. Ambulance EMT’s pronounced Ingram Lopez dead. The family’s attorney hired a former Maricopa County Medical Examiner to do an independent autopsy. It conflicts with the Pima County Medical Examiner’s ruling on death. The Pima County report basically attributes the death to cocaine and a heart condition and mentions how Ingram-Lopez was restrained. It says, in part:“...the cause of death is ascribed to sudden cardiac arrest in the setting of acute cocaine intoxication and physical restraint with cardiac left ventricular hypertrophy as a significant contributing condition.”The alternative report says the cocaine and the heart condition were not serious enough to have killed by themselves. It puts more blame on how the officers restrained Ingram-Lopez and say, “his death is most consistent with asphyxia due to compromised airway which is best explained by a facedown position restricting his breathing.”Attorney Eduardo Coronado says instead of putting their weight on Ingram-Lopez back, officers should have realized he was co-operating and let him sit up and breathe.“What I can say is that there was a complete lack of empathy, a complete lack of humanity, a total disregard for his needs and just indifference, complete indifference.”Now the family says it wants a thorough criminal investigation of what the three former officers did and it’s considering a civil lawsuit.Report details TPD officer misconduct in death of Carlos Ingram-LopezKGUN's Craig Smith first reported this story. 2918

A student was wounded in a shooting Friday morning at a high school in Ocala, Florida, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said, shortly before students were to walk out as part of a national protest against gun violence. The student was shot in the ankle at Forest High School and transported to a hospital with a wound not considered life threatening, said Kevin Christian, Marion Public Schools spokesman. The victim is 17.A school resource officer heard a loud bang at 8:39 a.m., Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods told reporters.Three minutes later, the officer took a 19-year-old suspect -- who's not a student -- into custody without incident, Woods said. The motive is unclear for what's the 20th US school shooting this year."It's a shame what society has come to in that we even have to be here on a school campus," Woods said. "Society has changed since I was in school. ... We as a whole need to do something. My emotions are running rampant."Woods and school officials said the resource officer's quick response and active shooter protocols at the school helped save lives.Jake Mailhiot, 16, a junior, posted a photo to social media of desks, chairs and other furniture piled high over the door to the classroom where he was studying psychology. The barricade was meant to keep out an active shooter."I didn't hear anything other than people from other classrooms crying," he said.Mailhiot and other students helped a teacher block the door, he said. They were on lockdown for about an hour.Authorities asked residents to avoid the area of Forest High, which was surrounded by emergency vehicles and buses transporting students away from the scene. As Forest High students were being bused to First Baptist Church of Ocala to be reunited with their parents, students at some 2,500 schools around the country were walking out of their classrooms as part of the National School Walkout against gun violence."The fact that it happened on this day, in a way, reinforces what we are trying to get across," said Ryan Servaites, a high school freshman in Parkland, Florida, where 17 students and teachers were gunned down in February. "This happens. It is an issue. We see more people dying. Children are being hurt." In a walkout in New York City, Stuyvesant High School sophomore Grace Goldstein, 16, lamented that her generation has become desensitized to gun violence."We're very glad that no lives were lost," she said of the Ocala shooting. "We're incredibly grateful for that. Our reaction was, of course, this is how our country works. The person who was shot today is on the list of the people who we're fighting for."Forest High was to participate in the walkout, according to a Thursday post on the Ocala school's Twitter account.Instead, aerial news footage from the scene showed a sea of students gathered outside a steepled church to meet their parents and officers, guns at their side, clearing buildings on the sprawling Ocala campus.School walkouts were canceled districtwide in Marion County after the shooting, according to school board member Nancy Stacy. The Ocala shooting comes more than two months since the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland near Fort Lauderdale. Parkland students are participating in the national walkout -- which is also the 19th anniversary of the shooting deaths of 13 people at Columbine High School in Colorado."We won't stop," Servaites told CNN. "This is why. It is, in a way, the world slapping us in the face, but we just have to look at it as a wake-up call."Forest High, which was ranked as one of the best high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, has about 2,100 students. Ocala is about 65 miles northwest of Orlando. 3725

A principal at Education Alternatives in Bedford, Ohio is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student at the school, who was 17 at the time."He says the relationship started when they were upstairs in the gym alone, that she kissed him on the mouth," said Bedford Police Deputy Chief Rick Suts. "Since then, there had been numerous encounters in her van."The teenager told police that his relationship with Courtney Alfred continued for months.Police said the former student came to them last week. Suts said the school knew about the alleged relationship but after their own investigation said the allegations were not credible. Bedford police disagree."He's saying that he took video of them having sex and in that encounter, you see a tattoo. We got a search warrant to see her tattoo, that tattoo matches the one on the video," added Suts.Police said there were also text messages and that money was transferred from Alfred to the teenager. Police said the teen told them it was to keep him from telling her husband.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland tried to contact Alfred at her home, but there was no answer. WEWS also called the central office for Education Alternatives, but the call was not returned. WEWS also left two messages for her attorney, Vince Ruffa, but Ruffa also did not return messages.Alfred was arrested. She was in court last week facing a sexual battery charge. Alfred is due back in court later this month. 1503
