Hurricane Maria was upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane on Monday, with top sustained winds of 160 MPH. As the hurricane continues to churn in the Atlantic Ocean, it is expected to strike Puerto Rico on Wednesday. The hurricane could prove to be a disastrous blow to more than 3 million Americans in Puerto Rico. Because of the threat posed to the US territory, Puerto Rico was placed under a hurricane warning by the National Hurricane Center.Earlier on Monday, forecasters predicted Maria's rapid intensification. "Significant strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Maria is expected to become a dangerous major hurricane before it moves through the Leeward Islands," according to the National Hurricane Center's latest update.  Maria has prompted a hurricane warning for Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Kitts, Nevis and Montserrat. As of early Monday evening, the storm was passing over Dominica. Torrential rainfall could cause deadly flash flooding and mudslides on islands that it crosses. Maria could dump 6 to 12 inches of rain across the Leeward Islands -- including Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands -- through Wednesday night."We want to alert the people of Puerto Rico that this is not an event like we've ever seen before," Gov. Ricardo Rosselló told reporters Monday. And for the first time in 85 years, Puerto Rico is expected to suffer a direct landfall from a Category 4 or 5 hurricane. Puerto Rico's governor has declared a state of emergency ahead of that landfall, which will likely happen Wednesday."It's time to wrap up your preparations now, Puerto Rico," CNN meteorologist Chad Myers said. 1719

Hurricane Irma may be gone, but days of darkness and devastation are just beginning in Florida.Residents could go for days without power after the storm uprooted homes, trees and power lines, leaving 4.4 million customers without electricity statewide in simmering temperatures, officials said."Temperatures will be around 90 for many, especially central and southern Florida for the next several days," CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward said. "High humidity will make it feel like the low to mid-90s. While it isn't above normal, it's certainly warm and humid which is miserable without power." 599

If you’ve ever lost your pet, you can probably recall the panic you felt. But as technology advances, the chances of finding our lost furry friends gets better and better.Ajax is Matt Sutton’s first puppy, and when they’re not together, he always wants to know where he is.  “I would never want to lose him. It would be devastating if I did,” Sutton says. That's why he got Ajax microchipped.  “I have a Social Security number on there for his microchip, and that's plugged into my phone and that’s registered in the database for him,” Sutton explains.    But now, there's a new way pet owners can keep track of their pets: facial recognition. The Finding Rover mobile app allows pet owners to upload a photo of their missing dog or cat. The app then scans a database of more than a million rescued or found animals that could be a to make a match. The founders of Finding Rover say the app is 98 percent accurate.Veterinarian Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald says with so many lost and stray animals, facial recognition for pets could be a huge asset. However, it doesn't mean pet owners should abandon microchips.  “Right now, I don't think that the official technology thing is as widespread,” says Dr. Fitzgerald. “You know, we aren't seeing that, but this should be. You know everybody should have a microchip.”Finding Rover founders say they've reunited more than 15,000 pets with their owners.“It's an added layer, and I think that's a very helpful asset to any dog owner,” says Sutton.  1531

In an interview that was published on the US Department of State's website Friday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said more of Hilary Clinton's emails would be released. The news of the emails being released comes on the heels of two interviews President Donald Trump did Thursday. On Fox Business, Trump expressed his unhappiness with Pompeo because he's "running the department," so he should be able to "get them out," the State Department interview transcript stated."They're in the State Department, but Mike Pompeo has been unable to get them out, which is very sad," Trump said. "Actually, I'm not happy about him for that – that reason. He was unable to get them out. I don't know why. You're running the State Department; you get them out. Forget about the fact that they were classified. Let's go. Maybe Mike Pompeo finally finds them. Okay?"On Thursday, in an interview with Rush Limbaugh, President Donald Trump said Clinton "should be in jail" for deleting 30,000 emails, according to the State Department."She deleted 33,000 emails. She should be in jail for that. I don't even care if they're – if they're very highly confidential emails. I don't care what."In an interview with Fox News on Friday, Pompeo said that they have the emails and they're "getting them out.""We're going to get all this information out so the American people can see it," Pompeo said. "You'll remember there was classified information on a private server. It should have never been there. Hillary Clinton should never have done that. It was unacceptable behavior. It's not the kind of thing that leaders do."Pompeo added that the emails would probably be released before the election." We're doing it as fast as we can," Pompeo said. "I certainly think there'll be more to see before the election."In 2019, the State Department found "no persuasive evidence of systemic, deliberate mishandling of classified information." 1919

IMPERIAL BEACH (KGTV) - Medical examiners identified the body found floating off-shore in Imperial Beach as 29-year-old Zabiullah Rahmani.Rahmani leaves behind a wife of nearly ten years and two 7-year-old twin daughters. Ramzia Rahmani tells 10News, "I can say it was horrible and it still is." Less than a week since she lost her husband and the feelings are still raw, "The fire is burning in my chest whenever I see my girls ask about their father. It'ss too hard to face their questions, it's hard to answer their questions about their dad."She tells 10News, her husband left Saturday night to hangout with friends down in Imperial Beach. She says he was planning to be home for midnight but the hours after turned into Monday, "The doorbell rang and I saw there was two police officers and I felt bad. I thought maybe something happened to my husband." Thinking something bad but never imagining it would end up being her worst nightmare, "It's hard for me to believe hes not with me anymore." Thankfully she has support from family members like Zabi's cousin, "I'll try my best to be like a father to Zabi's kids and treat them the same way I treat my kids." A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family as they try to put together the pieces from here, "When we left Afghanistan he was like, we are going to have a bright future over there." Now, rebuilding that future without their husband and father. 1422
