SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The U.S. Attorney's Office of Southern California announced charges Friday against a man in the death of a Camp Pendleton Marine who had an overdose in his barracks.The unidentified Corporal was found unresponsive on the floor near his computer chair on January 29, 2017. He was wearing headphones and appeared to have been playing video games, investigators said.An autopsy determined the Marine died of fentanyl toxicity. A pill found on the headboard near a powdery substance and a rolled-up dollar bill tested positive for fentanyl.A complaint unsealed Friday detailed drug charges against 25-year-old Kyle Shephard of San Marcos.Investigators said Shephard met the victim in November 2016 and sold him fentanyl and other drugs multiple times over three months.Shepard acknowledged the pills could lead to an overdose, according to the complaint.In December, Shephard was arrested and charged with possessing for distribution roughly 2,000 fentanyl pills.“What a senseless tragedy that another young life has been lost because of fentanyl,” said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman. “This Marine was serving his country and had his whole life ahead of him. Your two favorite tiger cubs are ready for visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Friday the zoo released video of the cubs enjoying their new home. The approximately 3-month-old, rescued Bengal tiger cub and his 4-month-old companion, a Sumatran tiger cub are settling in nicely at the Tull Family Tiger Trail. “The two cubs are adjusting really well to their new home,” said Lori Hieber, senior mammal keeper at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “They’re doing great. They act like little brothers; they play and cuddle a lot, and they squabble a bit like most brothers, but it’s all natural, healthy behavior.”The Bengal tiger cub was brought to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on  August 23, 2017, after being confiscated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers during a vehicle inspection at the U.S./Mexico port of entry near San Diego. RELATED: Customs and Border Protection agents seize tiger cub at US-Mexico borderHe remains under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego man who claimed he punched a San Diego Police officer in self-defense was convicted on four counts Friday.Frederick Jefferson was arrested February 3 at Chicano Park in Barrio Logan. At the time, police were trying to disperse a crowd which had gathered as two groups debated the historical significance of the park. Barricades were in place, and dozens of officers were standing by to keep order.During a jailhouse interview with 10News, Jefferson said a San Diego Police officer asked him to get out the street. However, Jefferson said he didn’t want to walk with the protestors.RELATED: San Diego man claims he punched officer in self defenseJefferson said he tried talking to the officer but admitted he did not get out of the street.“When they got out of the car, I continued walking,” he said. “I told them I said, ‘I’m just going to keep walking on’ and as I kept walking on they came up behind me.”RELATED: Video: Demonstration between groups at Chicano Park becomes violentJefferson said an officer grabbed his shirt and swung a billy club.“I was afraid that if this dude got back a hold of me he was going to go town on me with the billy club," Jefferson said.San Diego Police Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Unified School District and School Board President Kevin Beiser are holding a news conference Wednesday to discuss student safety in light of the Parkland shootings.The school officials will explain the district's plan to address the nationwide student-led walkout to protest government inaction to curb gun violence. President Beiser will also discuss a resolution he brought forth at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting demanding action from state and federal officials to reduce access to certain firearms. During the news conference, officials asked lawmakers in Sacramento to implement a 10 percent tax on firearms in California to help fund school safety programs. Watch the news conference in the player below:  785
