The bankruptcy filing allows Remington to stay in business while restructuring its massive debt. The company has been planning to reduce its debt by 0 million through the Chapter 11 process and contribute 5 million to its subsidiaries.Remington plans to keep on making guns. The company said, when it first announced its plan to file for bankruptcy in February, that operations "will not be disrupted by the restructuring process."Founded in 1816, Remington is one of the oldest and best-known gun makers in the world. It's owned by Cerberus Capital Management, which plans to shed ownership once the bankruptcy is complete.Remington is headquartered in North Carolina. It makes a variety of handguns, shotguns and rifles at its sprawling 19th-century factory in Ilion, N.Y.Its products include the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle that was used in the 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. The company has been sued by family members of the Sandy Hook victims. An attorney from the law firm representing those family members said it does not expect the bankruptcy filing to affect its clients' case "in any material way."The company also settled a class action lawsuit a few years ago regarding allegations of defective rifles. The gun industry as a whole has suffered plunging sales and profits under the Trump administration, because consumers are no longer driven by fears of more restrictive gun control with a Republican in the White House who's been endorsed by the National Rifle AssociationAmerican Outdoor Brands, which owns the brand Smith & Wesson, reported dismal earnings earlier this month as did Sturm Ruger in February, and they've laid off hundreds of workers.  1702

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has released the body camera video from the search executed at the Tallahassee home of fired Florida COVID-19 data curator Rebekah Jones. The footage was publicly released Thursday afternoon after Jones shared her own clip of the search on social media on Monday. Jones helped create Florida's COVID-19 dashboard before being terminated for insubordination in May."The actions of FDLE agents have been vilified over the past few days regarding the legal search warrant executed at the residence of Ms. Rebekah Jones. Because of inaccurate and incomplete statements given by certain individuals, the body camera video taken from outside the home is being made available," FDLE wrote in their statement.According to FDLE, the body camera video starts at 8:25 a.m., when a Tallahassee Police Department officer and an FDLE agent walk up to the door. At 8:26 a.m., FDLE said they began ringing the doorbell and knocking on the door. "During the initial approach, agents tried to minimize disruption to the children, attempting to speak with Ms. Jones at the door to explain the search warrant," FDLE wrote.Around 8:31 a.m., agents went to the back of the house and saw Jones’ husband going upstairs. They said that the situation continued for 23 minutes as Jones refused to cooperate even as agents called her multiple times. When they went inside the home, agents saw a video camera pointed in the direction of the front door, which seemed to be recording the entire time the agents were inside the home.Jones' video was not seized during the search warrant. Neither were electronic devices belonging to Jones’ children and husband after being "forensically examined."“I am proud of the way these FDLE agents performed. I can only hope those same individuals who criticized these public safety heroes will now apologize and condemn the actions of Ms. Jones," FDLE Commissioner Swearingen stated. "The media should also demand Ms. Jones release the entirety of the video she recorded while agents were present in her home.”To watch the first part of the video, click here: https://vimeo.com/489556079.To watch the second part of the video, click here: https://vimeo.com/489554493.This story originally reported on WTXL.com. 2288

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Florida teen identified as the mastermind of scheme that gained control of Twitter accounts of politicians, celebrities and technology moguls has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of fraud. Seventeen-year-old Graham Clark is accused of using the hijacked Twitter accounts to scam people around the world out of more than 0,000 in Bitcoin. He faces numerous charges including 17 counts of communications fraud and 11 counts of fraudulent use of personal information. Two other men were also charged in the case. Mason Sheppard, 19, of Bognor Regis, U.K., and Nima Fazeli, 22, of Orlando were charged separately last week in California federal court.Court papers in the California cases say Fazeli and Sheppard brokered the sale of Twitter accounts stolen by a hacker who identified himself as “Kirk,” and said he could “reset, swap and control any Twitter account at will” in exchange for cybercurrency payments, claiming to be a Twitter employee. The documents do not specify Kirk’s real identity but say he is a teen being prosecuted in the Tampa area.Twitter has said the hacker gained access to a company dashboard that manages accounts by using social engineering and spear-phishing smartphones to obtain credentials from “a small number” of Twitter employees “to gain access to our internal systems.” Spear-phishing uses email or other messaging to deceive people into sharing access credentials. The prosecution believes Clark called a Twitter employee and was able to convince the employee he was a coworker, according to the Wall Street Journal.A blog post from Twitter last week shared some details of the hack. "Using the credentials of employees with access to these tools, the attackers targeted 130 Twitter accounts, ultimately Tweeting from 45, accessing the DM inbox of 36, and downloading the Twitter Data of 7." Clark was arrested Friday and entered the not-guilty pleas Tuesday. He remains in jail with bond set at 5,000. A bond hearing is set for Wednesday. 2013

Students in at the Arizona College Prepatory Academy will walk out of class Wednesday to show their support for the Second Amendment. The event is called Stand for the Second and is happening in at least 39 other states across the U.S.The walkout comes after students around the country staged a walkout aimed at stopping gun violence and honoring the students killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. In February, protesters nationwide left their classrooms and remained outside for 17 minutes to honor the 17 people gunned down. Will Riley, an 18 year old from New Mexico, started this event to support the lives saved by firearms.“Every year an estimated 1.5 million Americans use a firearm to defend themselves,” Riley said. “During a 16-minute walkout, that breaks down to 91 American lives saved during the walkout. We want Americans to know that firearms are overwhelmingly used for good in our country.”The participating students here in Tucson plan to walk out at 10 a.m. 1044
