ABC said the violations arose out of sales of alcohol included in the 2018 promotion.The "Monopoly" promotion was held at Albertsons stores, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pac N Save, and Pavilions locations.The promotion advertised certain beer brands by MillerCoors as part of the game. Customers received additional chances to win prizes if they purchased those brands, according to ABC."This particular violation gave these retailers a competitive advantage by offering consumers a gift or premium for purchasing alcoholic beverage products," ABC Director Jacob Appelsmith said in a release.ABC filed action against nearly 600 stores across California, accusing the companies of violation several regulations. The agency says the "California Alcoholic Beverage Control Act prohibits the giving away of premiums, gifts or free goods in connection with the sale or marketing of alcoholic beverages."The act prevents alcohol companies from engaging in anti-competitive behavior and gaining an unfair advantage.As part of the probe, the three companies agreed to pay 0,000 in fines, 0,000 due within 30 days and the remaining 0,000 stayed on the condition the companies violate the similar regulations over the next two years. 1643

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Police officer and another person were struck by a vehicle along a major Midway District roadway Thursday morning.The officer was responding to a vandalism call at about 4:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Midway Drive at Rosecrans Street, according to police.The officer was outside of his patrol vehicle and working to detain a suspect when both were struck by a passing SUV. Witnesses say the officer had the suspect pinned down when they were hit."The suspect ran from the officers. While taking the suspect into custody in the street, both were stuck by an oncoming vehicle," SDPD said via a Tweet.The officer is in serious but stable condition. The unidentified officer was spotted on a gurney and being lifted into an ambulance while giving the thumbs up sign. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman struck by a hit-and-run driver on a Logan Heights street suffered life-threatening injuries Friday, San Diego Police said. The crash happened about 11 a.m. in the 700 block of Cesar Chavez Parkway at Kearney Avenue. A white Ford F-150 pickup truck was driving west and struck a woman also heading west on the north sidewalk, police said. The truck made a right turn onto Kearney Avenue and struck the woman. The driver did not stop to help the woman and continued north on Kearney Avenue, according to investigators. The 52-year-old victim suffered major head trauma. Police said the truck had a tinted back window and a white California sticker. Anyone with information can call the San Diego Police Department. 747

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego veteran and father is defending his son's right to sit during the national anthem.Ray Everett is responding to a letter sent to Lincoln High School's principal, complaining that students on the basketball team were sitting and talking during the national anthem.The man who wrote the letter is a U.S. Air Force veteran and grandfather to a player on the opposing team. Another parent who was offended used her phone to film the students sitting."At the end of the day our students do not have to stand," said Everett. "But you will not make them feel like they did something wrong. They did not harm anyone and they did not break the law."Everett was in the U.S. Army for 15 years. He says he served his country in order to protect the rights of Americans, including the right to sit during the national anthem.Everett's brother-in-law, Antoine Jarvis, says while he was offended by the letter he respects everyone's right to their own opinion. "I think that the biggest challenge in voicing your opinion is when you're close-minded to other's opinions," said Jarvis. "When you're close-minded to their beliefs."Jarvis says he no longer stands during the national anthem after learning more about its history. He only asks that others respect his right to do so.The principal of Lincoln High School, a veteran himself, has been responsive to complaints and plans to sit down with the veteran who wrote the letter about the student's actions.On Thursday the San Diego Unified School District sent a statement to 10News:Public school districts do not have the authority to require students to observe patriotic or religious rituals in the classroom or at school functions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A vandal targeted at least a dozen vehicles at a popular shopping center in University City on Friday, flattening tires across one of the parking lots."It's very upsetting," said Camille Bsaibes.Bsaibes showed 10news a Toyota RAV4 with a flat tire. The vehicle belongs to his son. Bsaibes, who owns Amardeen restaurant, located in the Renaissance Towne Centre, experienced his own flat tire Friday while driving his van. Bsaibes didn't notice it until he was one the road."When I was driving, I was shaking ... wondering why it was shaking," said Bsaibes.Bsaibes pulled over and found three of his tires flat. His total bill to replace tires? Nearly 0. That day, three of his employees also felt their tires go flat as they were driving home from work. They were all parked in the same back lot. It was a similar story for four employees of the L-Transformation beauty boutique. In all, at least 12 vehicles from 4 of the businesses were hit in one day. It happened in broad daylight at the busy shopping center, sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m."The tire shop said somebody used a long, sharp object and punctured the side of the wheel," said Bsaibes.The flat tires weren't immediately obvious and didn't become a problem until the vehicle were on the road. Many working at the shopping center wonder if that was on purpose. Was the vandal hoping to cause havoc on the roads? "I'm glad everyone is safe. It could have been worse.
