TWIN LAKES, Colo. -- Riley Tinkham has done something very special with his dad's prized Porsche.He inherited the 1982 model when his father, Richard, died of complications from cancer in 2016. VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) - A major San Diego County horse rescue is under fire for how it handles its horses and donations. The founder of Valley Center’s HiCaliber Horse Rescue is accused, in part, of raising thousands of dollars to rescue horses from slaughter, only to euthanize them by gunshot.The controversial nonprofit was just investigated by county officials and now state officials are looking into it.Michelle Cochran founded and runs the rescue, which has more than 150 horses on its property. She is the self-described “bad girl of rescue”, an edgy, foul-mouthed woman with purple streaks in her hair and facial piercings.Her rescue has more than 50,000 followers on Facebook. It’s where she posts videos of her trips to horse auctions, where she begs for money to buy livestock that she says would otherwise be shipped to slaughterhouses in Mexico. She also posts photos of malnourished and injured horses she says she hopes to rescue.Once donations come in, she and her volunteers and the purchased horses return to the Valley Center property. Some of the horses get rehabilitated. Some get shot.“You’re accused of buying horses that can’t be saved, raising money to save them and then shooting them,” we tell Cochran.She responds, “It costs money to save them. It costs money to diagnose them. It costs money to haul them. It costs money to get their [bodies] removed.”She tells us she knows that some of the horses will be euthanized when she purchases them. That’s according to a recent investigation that was conducted by a contracted third party, since Cochran used to work for the county as an animal control officer.The nonprofit admits it purchased 17 “compassion pulls” last year. It reports it euthanized another 54 that could not be rehabilitated, but that’s out of a total of more than 400 horses it reportedly rescued. It reports it adopted out more than 150 horses.HiCaliber has not filed its 2016 taxes, citing getting an extension after an administrator had a family emergency. TUCSON, Ariz. — Archeologists from the University of Arizona and Stanford University along with archeologists from Italy have discovered a 10-year-old's body at an ancient Roman site suggesting the child was given a "vampire burial" to prevent the child coming back from the dead.The skeletal remains included a skull with a rock intentionally inserted into the mouth. Researchers believe the stone may have been placed there as part of a funeral ritual to contain a disease like malaria."I have never seen anything like it. It's extremely eerie and weird," said David Soren, a Univeristy of Arizona archeologist.The discovery was made at La Necropoli dei Bambini, or the Cemetery of the Babies.The cemetery dates back to the mid-fifth century when a deadly malaria outbreak swept the area, killing many young children and babies.Until now, archeologists believed the cemetery was designed for infants, toddlers and unborn fetuses. In previous excavations, a 3-year-old girl was the oldest child found.Now, archeologists are looking into whether the cemetery was used for older children too."There are still sections of the cemetery that haven't been excavated yet, so we don't know if we'll find older kids," said Jordan Wilson, a bioarcheologist with the University of Arizona. In previous excavations, archeologists found signs of witchcraft, including toad bones, raven talons and bronze cauldrons."We know that the Romans were very much concerned with this and would even to the extent of employing witchcraft to keep the evil — whatever is contaminating the body — from coming out," Soren said.Although the body will undergo DNA testing, the child had an abscessed tooth, which is a side effect of malaria, that suggests the child may have died because of the disease.Archeologists believe the rock was intentionally inserted after death because of the position of the jaw.These types of burials are called "vampire burials" since they are associated with the belief that the dead could rise again. 2062

Two people were fatally shot during a video game tournament at a shopping and dining complex Sunday in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, Sheriff Mike Williams said.Nine other people suffered gunshot wounds and two people were injured fleeing the area, Williams said.The gunman, identified as 24-year old David Katz, of Baltimore, Maryland, took his own life inside Chicago Pizza after the shooting, the sheriff said.
