SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Developers behind Horton Plaza's planned redevelopment have reached a deal with Macy's, allowing the project to continue.Stockdale Capital Partners announced the agreement reached with Macy's to allow the downtown San Diego project to move forward. The massive overhaul will see the nearly vacant mall turned into a mixed-use tech campus.Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In October 2019, Macy's filed a lawsuit to stop Stockdale Capital Partners' project. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Four Democrats running to be governor of California faced off in a debate in San Diego Thursday night.The San Diego County Democratic Party hosted the debate between John Chaing, Delaine Eastin, Gavin Newsom and Antonio Villaraigosa.The Democratic Convention is set to begin Friday. The candidates were asked a wide range of questions from fixing the tax system to housing and small business.A topic that led the charge was the topic of gun control. All candidates said they support stricter gun laws.A poll released two weeks ago shows Newsom leading Villaraigosa 23 to 21 percent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Frustrated business owners are speaking out after a rash of break-ins at local wineries and breweries.Lisa Miller, the co-owner of Koi Zen Cellars in Carmen Mountain Ranch, says her heart sank after she arrived at her winery one morning a few weeks ago."The plant was move to the side and the window was completely shattered. My heart started pounding. I got very anxious," said Miller.Inside, she tasted more anxiety. Police believe the intruder was looking for the cash register, something Miller doesn't have. Instead, the burglar grabbed 40 pieces of consignment jewelry valued at more than ,000."When the detective arrived, he said this has been happening in other wineries and breweries in the area," said Miler.Longship Brewery in Mira Mesa in early April: surveillance video shows a person in a hoodie breaking a window, then crawling through the window. Two days later at the Black Plague Brewery in Oceanside, an intruder wearing a mask and hoodie kicked through a window, slipped in and raced right for the cash drawer, before leaving and driving off in a white Jeep Patriot. Detectives told Miller some 18 breweries and wineries targeted in the past few months. "This makes me really sad, mom-and-pop places put their heart and soul into their business no matter what their business is. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Explosions rang out Thursday and Friday at an ocean view La Jolla home where FBI agents served a search warrant. Agents were checking the house at 625 Wrelton Drive in an ongoing investigation when they came across “certain materials,” said FBI Special Agent Davene Butler. The County of San Diego Hazardous Incident Response Team (HIRT) and San Diego Fire-Rescue were contacted for help to detonate and dispose of unstable chemicals. The material could not be safely moved from the neighborhood, Butler said. On Thursday, people who live near the home were evacuated for their safety, according to the FBI. On Friday, they were told to shelter in place. The bomb squad detonated Perchloric Acid in the backyard around 1 p.m."The reason we're blowing them up is, if they are handled improperly, they can blow up on their own," said Robert Wise, of the Environmental Protection Agency. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews are on scene after a commercial building burst into flames Saturday morning.The fire erupted near Carroll Road and Miramar Road just before 8 a.m. Saturday morning.More than 60 units responded to the three-alarm fire, according to authorities.By the time fire crews arrived on scene, flames were shooting through the roof. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire.The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but crews say power to the building was turned back on before the fire started. 548
