(KGTV) - The City of Oceanside has unveiled its latest effort to achieve their zero waste goals set back in 2011.Green Oceanside Kitchen is a state-of-the-art food recovery and preservation facility dedicated to eliminating waste and feeding the community."We need to do better, we need to feed our community and educate our community," said Colleen Foster, the City's Environmental Officer. The City teamed up with O'Side Kitchen Collaborative for the new project. They'll collect unwanted food from farmers, backyards, and food businesses, turning the goods into something delicious. "I could've done anything, but for me, making an impact in my community as well as it tasting good is the best!" said Vallie Gilley, Executive Director of O' side Kitchen Collaborative. The facility includes a 1,700 square foot commercial kitchen and a 500 square foot fridge that can hold about a semi-truck load of food. There's also an interactive demonstration kitchen for culinary arts training and education. Foster says more than 40 percent of what is grown and produced in the U.S. is wasted. With the new green facility, planners hope to save 20 percent of what would've gone to waste."That's thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of pounds of food," said Foster. OAK PARK, Mich. — The city of Oak Park, Michigan will host its annual Boo Bash Halloween event next Wednesday, but they are not allowing anyone to come as a clown.On the event page, the city says people can bring children in their favorite Halloween costumes, collect candy down the trick-or-treat street and enjoy cider and donuts. They also say that clown costumes are not allowed.Oak Park Recreation Director Laurie Stasiak told the Oakland County Times the ban stems from fear and anxiety over clowns for some children."In the past few years, many clown costumes have been given a very scary and evil look. Many scary and horror movies are centered around these types of characters. About three years [ago] there were national incidents in the news where people were dressing up as clowns and scaring people and in some cases assaulting them," she told the Oakland County?Times. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) – A father and his young son were hospitalized after a fire erupted at their mobile home in Oceanside.The fire was reported Tuesday at around 10:30 p.m. at a mobile home park on 251 Blue Springs Lane, according to Oceanside Fire officials.Witnesses told ABC 10News that the blaze started in the back of a mobile home, trapping a man and his son inside.As flames engulfed the home, some neighbors tried to put out the fire by spraying water from garden hoses.However, one neighbor heard banging coming from a window and a call for help. That neighbor got to the window, smashed it, and was then handed the boy by his father. Moments later, the neighbor helped the father crawl through the broken window.Responding firefighters were able to knock the fire down within 20 minutes. No other homes appeared to have been damaged by the blaze.ABC 10News learned the child was airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.The boy’s father was transported by helicopter to UC San Diego’s Burn Center with burn injuries and cuts from the broken window.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 1146

(KGTV) - The Oceanside Police Department asked for the public’s help Friday to find a missing man.Richard Teller, 80, was last seen at his home Thursday night at 10 pm.Police said Teller suffers from health conditions that require medication, which he does not have with him.Teller is believed to be driving a black 2006 Cadillac CTS with a California license plate of 5YDG829.Police said Teller is white, 5’9”, 190 pounds, with short gray hair and hazel eyes.Anyone who sees him is asked to call Oceanside Police at 760-435-4900. 556
