BOSTON (AP) — Four more parents pleaded guilty on Monday in the college admissions bribery scandal, and a Texas man accused of helping to orchestrate the scheme also agreed to reverse his plea and accept guilt.Parents Douglas Hodge, Michelle Janavs, Manuel Henriquez and Elizabeth Henriquez entered guilty pleas in Boston's federal court Monday after previously pleading not guilty. Each faces charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.Martin Fox, the president of a private tennis club in Houston, also agreed to plead guilty by Nov. 20 in a deal that prosecutors announced Monday. He is charged with racketeering.Authorities say Fox brokered bribes to help wealthy parents cheat on their children's college entrance exams at a Houston testing site. He's also accused of arranging bribes to get two students admitted to the University of San Diego as recruited athletes, and one student to the University of Texas. He will return the 5,000 he received through the scheme, according to his plea deal.Fifteen other parents previously pleaded guilty as part of plea agreements. Prosecutors agreed to request lighter sentences for those parents since they took responsibility earlier. But the four new parents had no such deals, and they face additional charges of money laundering that could bring weightier sentences.Out of 10 parents sentenced so far, nine have been dealt prison time, with terms ranging from 14 days to five months. Another 15 parents are fighting charges tied to the scheme. Their trials are expected to begin sometime in 2020.Hodge, of Laguna Beach, California, was accused of paying more than 0,000 in bribes to get two of his children into the University of Southern California. BONITA (KGTV) - A Bonita man is seeking the public's help to find the people responsible for ransacking his family home last Tuesday night.Michael Currier grew up on San Miguel Road in Bonita and once you understand his family's history it's easy to see why this home means so much.A couple doors down is where his mother and uncles were raised, at grandpa's house. His mother stayed close to care for grandma who had Alzheimer's and when the house went on the market, Currier and his wife pulled together what they could to keep it in the family.They bought the home in 2013 and have been renovating. He and his wife are now taking care of his mother, who also has Alzheimer's, so they weren't home last Tuesday night.Currier came home Wednesday and found it barren. All the construction tools in each room, gone. Incredibly rare parts he was using to build specialty motorcycles, gone too. Shelves full of black bins barren, with dust outlining where they sat for years."The parts that were stolen are irreplaceable. Those motorcycles, I'll never be able to work on again," Currier said.Currier worked as a contractor to pay for nursing school, and collected tools since he was 15. While he's glad no one was hurt from the break-in, what he lost was more than items on a list."Definitely makes you feel a little uncomfortable in your own house in your own neighborhood which is frustrating especially when you grew up in this area and this has always been a home, a safe place," he said.He filed a report with the San Diego County Sheriff's Office and they are looking into the incident.In the meantime, Currier's resorted to hanging signs, with a reward for information, around the neighborhood. 1726

Baltimore Police confirmed a man was hit by a light rail train and cut in half at 8:35 a.m. Thursday.The accident occurred at North Howard and West Lexington Street, roughly a block south of the Lexington Market Light Rail stop. Police believe the incident occurred somewhere between Mulberry Street and Saratoga Street, with the person's body ultimately becoming dislodged from the train near West Lexington Street, Baltimore Police Chief Spokesman T.J. Smith said in an update around 10:30 a.m. There were passengers on the train at the time of the incident, Maryland Transit Administration Public Information Officer Paul Sheppard confirmed. Investigators are operating in a large scene that spans Howard Street from Mulberry Street south to Baltimore Street. BOULDER CREEK, Calif. (AP) — When a massive wildfire swept through California’s oldest state park last week, it was feared many trees in a grove of old-growth redwoods may have finally succumbed.Some of the state’s redwoods are around 2,000 years old and among the tallest living things on Earth.But an Associated Press reporter and photographer hiked the renowned Redwood Trail at Big Basin Redwoods State Park on Monday and confirmed most of the ancient redwoods had withstood the blaze.Among the survivors is one dubbed Mother of the Forest.Most of the redwoods may have been spared, but the historic park headquarters was not. It and many small structures were destroyed by the blazes.The fire is still burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains south of San Francisco.Laura McLendon, conservation director for the Sempervirens Fund, told The Associated Press that a great deal of work will need to be done to rebuild campground, clear trails and manage damaged trees, but Big Basin will recover. 1001
