PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Bundled up and armed with long lenses, an intimate crowd of naturalists, rehabbers and bird enthusiasts gathered in Virginia on Election Day, ready for a glimpse at America's national symbol."It has been the national symbol since the 1780s, but it hasn't always been treated with much respect," said Ed Clark, President of The Wildlife Center of Virginia.The eagle, which made his way to the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve in Portsmouth Tuesday, is a solid 8 pounds, has a 6-foot wing span and is being labeled majestic and mysterious."They really are the flagship species of the natural world and we almost lost them," said Clark.This regal eagle found himself in a scuffle in Suffolk in August with another bird, but was thankfully rescued by a private citizen."Fights are pretty benign but this one banged up and he had soft tissue injuries," Clark said.The beautiful bald eagle has been undergoing treatment at the Wildlife Center of Virginia for the past two months."We are delighted to return him to the area in which he came from and give him another chance," said Clark.Clark says bald eagles are no longer on the endangered species list, and went on to note that there are more than 2,000 pairs in the commonwealth and more than 1,500 nests in the Tidewater region."The bald eagle is one of the greatest conservation success stories we have in North America," he said.The icon is a symbol of courage, strength and freedom, taking the popular vote with eager onlookers."Alright everybody, one, two, three," shouted Clark before launching the bird over Lake Ballard."To be able to send him back to wild lets us be comforted no matter how divided we are as a people or polarized, we are all American's, " said Clark.This story was originally published by Chelsea Donovan at WKTR. 1812

President Donald Trump is returning to the campaign trail and will hold his first rally since his COVID-19 diagnosis on Monday in Florida.Trump’s campaign says the event will take place at 7 p.m. in Sanford.The rally will be Trump’s first since he tested positive for the coronavirus Oct. 1 with just weeks to go before voting ends in the Nov. 3 election.Trump’s doctor, Sean P. (KGTV) - A Poway family is stocking up on resources in case a quarantine is triggered by the coronavirus.As the father, Nate took his love of engineering home to support the family, "we have a big family, and food is expensive, so we’ve always tried to be self reliant."Self reliant means gardens, poultry and fish. They have five kids. Right next to the back deck is a garden at about hip level. “We have kale, we have thyme and parsley. My cilantro grows pretty well here, we have salad greens.” Nate listed off. That particular garden is watered by a fish tank full of a dozen or so Tilapia.Fruit trees dot the backyard. Everything from apricot, apples and nectarines, to cherries, guavas and mulberries grow here.In the opposite side of the yard is a chicken coop. "We have 11 chickens, we get eggs every day. About 7," his wife, Lacy said happily. She said they planned to only grow one more garden this summer but in the last week four more have been constructed and prepared for seeding.In a shed next to the new garden beds, is a stockpile. Under a wood workbench sit brown metal tubs with 'Department of Defense Drinking Water' labels. Nate looked down at his clipboard and read off more supplies, “we have wheat for sprouting. We have about 100lbs. of brown sugar and honey."In the last month they've ramped up gathering supplies."This week we basically went and bought a lot of stuff that we would normally buy in the next few months, but we bought it now in case we can’t go in the next few months." Nate said he is watching national news and concerned a quarantine could come to San Diego.“We just have to take care of each other. There might not be food on the shelves, there might be kids staying home all day from school. We don’t know.” He said.Now they're looking at their backyard in a different way. “We’ve got the pool for washing if we needed it... So this is the drinking water should we need it, we have two generators.”Even their kids are aware and prepared to help. “I got it in case the coronavirus comes here," Shelby, 7, said showing us her medical kit.The family hopes they don't ever have to use their stockpile but are prepared just in case. 2197

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Poway family is desperately searching for their beloved cat who was last seen getting into a car with an Amazon delivery driver Monday night. Rachael Dominguez shared her doorbell camera footage with 10News which shows Cofi the Siamese cat interacting with the driver on the front porch. Another angle shows the same driver and the cat getting into a car and driving away.Dominguez contacted the Poway Sheriff's Department and Amazon. The company told her the driver says he thought Cofi was a stray and was trying to help but the cat jumped out of his car at a later stop.The driver says Cofi jumped out around Cree Court in Poway. Dominguez is asking people living in that area to keep an eye out for the cat. 746

President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning that American prisoner Josh Holt has been released from prison in Venezuela."Good news about the release of the American hostage from Venezuela," Trump tweeted. "Should be landing in D.C. this evening and be in the White House, with his family, at about 7:00 P.M. They say they're doing things, but I'm still here."Holt and his wife were freed overnight and released to the US Embassy in Caracas, according to Foro Penal, a human rights organization of lawyers and others who assist political prisoners in Venezuela.
