BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- China and Myanmar agreed on Wednesday to took the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties to consolidate traditional friendship and enhance cooperation in key areas including energy and infrastructure building.Chinese President Hu Jintao and Myanmar's top leader Than Shwe reached the agreement in their one-hour-long talks in the Great Hall of the People.After a red-carpet welcome ceremony for Than Shwe, chairman of Myanmar's State Peace and Development Council, Hu told him China highly valued its relations with the country, and it was an unswerving policy of China to solidify and develop good-neighborly cooperation with Myanmar."The policy will remain unchanged regardless of changes of international situation," he added.Hu said that with the meticulous care of leaders of the elder generations of both sides, China-Myanmar relations had withstood the tests of the ever-changing world since the establishment of diplomatic ties 60 years ago."Our bilateral relations have seen consolidation and growth ever since, and has set an example for friendly relations between countries with different social systems," said the Chinese president.Hailing the profound friendship between the two countries, Than Shwe said the two countries supported and understood each other over the years, citing enhanced friendship and trust, frequent high-level visits and rapid growth of win-win cooperation in various areas.China has stuck to a peaceful development road, said the Myanmar top leader, adding China's stance on major issues such as climate change fully reflected the interests and concerns of vast developing countries.He also reiterated his government's adherence to the one-China policy.This year marks the 60th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic ties. He pledged joint efforts with China to this end.Than Shwe arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon to start his five-day state visit to China. TIANJIN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Executives from China's auto makers Sunday rejected an official warning that unchecked growth in the industry was leading to excess capacity and could harm the wider economy.Chen Bin, an official with the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planner, Saturday said excess auto capacity threatened sustainable economic development and must be "resolutely" stopped.But industry representatives and the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) Sunday argued car makers were only trying to meet expected demand in the world's largest auto market.Dongfeng Automobile, a major Chinese auto manufacturer, had been running in top gear since last year, said Fan Zhong, a senior manager. "Our problem is not having enough capacity."Most entrepreneurs at the International Forum on Chinese Automobile Industry Development in Tianjin had similar views.Ford China was focusing on expanding capacity as demand kept rising, said CEO Robert Graziano.The overall capacity of China's auto industry might seem excessive, but the market had huge potential for restructuring and growth, said Hu Xinmin, honorary chairman of the CAAM.

BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's work safety supervisor will soon launch a nationwide inspection campaign on coal mines to crack down on illegal mining and prevent deadly accidents.A spokesman of the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS) said Sunday the campaign, which starts on Oct. 10 and lasts until Nov. 30, will check whether accident-prone small coal mines of outdated capacity have been shut down according to state policies.Technological upgrades, merger and acquisition of coal mines will also be examined during the campaign, the spokesman said.According to the SAWS, 1,539 small coal mines of outdated capacity have to be closed in China this year to meet the country's carbon dioxide emission and pollution-reduction requirements.China's annual fatalities at coal mines had dropped from a peak of 6,995 deaths in 2002 to 2,631 in 2009, according to data from the SAWS.Six people were killed and 12 were injured in a coal mine gas outburst Sunday in southwest China's Guizhou Province, a spokesman with the provincial work safety bureau said.The accident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. Sunday in Xinglong Coal Mine in Tongzi County, Zunyi City of Guizhou, said the spokesman.Thirty-five people were working in the mine when the accident happened. Twenty-two people escaped, and another 12 were rescued.One worker missing was later found dead in the mine, and five died when being taken to hospital.

MUSCAT, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser Jia Qinglin arrived here Saturday for an official goodwill visit intended to promote the development of relations between China and Oman.Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, delivered a written speech at the airport of the Omani capital.In the speech, Jia hailed the traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation between China and Oman, which was once connected by the "Silk Road", pledging to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries and the two peoples through his visit.Oman is the third leg of Jia's four-state visit. He has visited Syria and Poland and will visit Kazakhstan.
