A now-5-year-old pit bull is back home with its owner after disappearing two-and-a-half years ago."This is a picture of her on the couch on Christmas," said Savannah Rastrelli, as she reminisced about her dog, Sugar. LACKLAND AFB, Texas – The Centers for Disease Control has now confirmed a 15th case of the new coronavirus, officially named COVID-19, in the United States. Thursday, the CDC said the new patient was among a group of people under federal quarantine at JBSA-Lackland in Texas who recently returned to the U.S. from China on a State Department-chartered flight that arrived on Feb. 7. This is the first person under quarantine at JBSA-Lackland who had symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19, according to the CDC. The new patient is currently isolated and receiving medical care at a designated hospital nearby. This isn't the first case of an evacuee being diagnosed with COVID-19. The 13th and 14th cases of the virus were found among evacuees who were flown last week from Wuhan to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in Southern California. This newest COVID-19 case was the first confirmed in Texas. The other 14 cases have been confirmed in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington state, Arizona and Wisconsin.Health officials say there will likely be additional COVID-19 cases in the coming days and weeks, including people who recently returned from Wuhan. Bill Chavez has always been fascinated with big trucks. He comes from a long line of truckers, which is one of the reasons he’s devoted his life for 39 years to the profession. To most people, Chavez’s truck looks like any traditional semi. However, it’s not ordinary, because with a push of a button, it can drive itself. “What we’re trying to do is create the world’s safest self-driving trucks,” says Chuck Price, the chief product officer of TuSimple, the company behind the self-driving semis. TuSimple is currently operating 15 self-driving semis, and Price says by June, they'll have three times that number. “This is actually a laser radar unit; we call it lidar, built into the mirror. This gives us a close-in view,” Price describes. “Then, we have cameras along the top of the vehicle that show us…much further away.” TuSimple’s trucks are already in the southwest part of the country, on interstates across the region. "Our systems see farther, track more objects and respond faster than a human can operate," Price says. Right now, a human must be in the trucks at all times as back-up protocol, but the company says a fully self-driving semi could happen by 2020. The company says when that day comes, it will alleviate one of the industry's biggest problems.Tony Bradley, with the Arizona Trucking Association, says nationwide they're currently 50,000 drivers short. "This is the worst shortage we've seen in the history of trucking,” Bradley stresses. Bradley says 15 years from now, the shortage could be as high as 200,000, thanks to the large number of drivers approaching retirement age. "It's a job that is frankly, not very glamorous," Bradley says. However, the job continues to be appealing to Chavez. "It's just very enjoyable to be out there on the road and being your own boss," Chavez says. He knows that a time may come where drivers might be replaced by this technology. However, he's OK with that idea and says roads will be safer for everyone. AURORA, Colo. – Hundreds of people are expected to gather Friday evening to demand that the officers involved in the in-custody death of Elijah McClain be fired by the Aurora Police Department.On Friday, they got part of their wish granted as Officer Jason Rosenblatt was among three Aurora Police officers fired. Rosenblatt recieved a text message from three other officers who imitated a choke hold that was performed on McClain. Rosenblatt responded with "Ha-Ha" to the text messages, Aurora Interim Police Chief Vanessa Wilson said. Two of the officers in the photo were fired, while a third resigned earlier this week. But the protesters are calling for the firing of two additional officers who were involved in last August's incident that resulted in McClain's death.“For 10 months Aurora Police Department has shielded Elijah McClain's murderers on their force from facing any form of justice. It was only last Friday, just ahead of a mass march for Elijah, that they pulled the three killers off the streets and put them on paid desk duty,” reads the announcement of the protest organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation – Denver (PSL). “We need to make it clear that this is absolutely NOT enough.”Last Friday, APD announced officers Nathan Woodyard, Rosenblatt and Randy Roedema had been taken off street duty "because of threats and harassment," according to a police spokesperson. The march is still scheduled for 6 p.m. The march and protest will put APD’s response to test once again, following a violent night of confrontation between officers and protesters last Saturday.Organizers say there will be people of all ages at Friday’s protest, “who do not want a repeat of last Saturday’s violence from APD, but (who) will not be intimidated out of exercising their First Amendment right to assemble and voice their concerns.”McClain’s death, largely unnoticed for the past 10 months, recently garnered national media attention following nationwide calls to reform interactions between police and Black Americans in the wake of George Floyd’s death.On Tuesday, the Colorado U.S. Attorney's Office, along with several other law enforcement agencies, announced they've been reviewing facts in the death of the 23-year-old Black man since last year for a potential federal civil rights investigation, saying they were aware of the photo allegations which surfaced Monday evening, and were gathering further information about the incident.
