SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Carlos woman says a buzzing sound caught her off guard at home. When she looked around, she spotted a drone hovering near her bedroom window, peering in.  Yvette Skalka was hanging her laundry in the backyard on September 6 when she heard the noise. She says she looked up and a small, white drone. “It hovered for a good 3 to 5 minutes.  It gave me an uneasy feeling. It didn’t feel right,” said Skalka.The drone flew up to the top of a palm on the property for a few minutes, before flying back down.“It was near three dogs and driving them crazy, like it was tormenting them,” said Skalka.Eventually, the drone flew off.  Skalka filed a police report and posted details on the Nextdoor app.  Another neighbor responded that she believed the same drone has recently hovered near her ground-floor bedroom, watching her college-age daughter.  That family also filed a police report. 956

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new reality television series focused on the day-to-day operation and conservation efforts of the San Diego Zoo will premiere Aug. 10 on Animal Planet.The cable channel had two crews shoot five days a week for more than four months to capture behind-the-scenes video at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Cameras were allowed into locations rarely seen by the general public, including inside the veterinary hospitals at the two sites."A lot of people don't know all that goes on behind the scenes and this show is basically that opportunity for anybody to peek in and spend time behind the scenes with the keepers," said San Diego Zoo Ambassador Rick Schwartz.There will be ten episodes, each an hour long. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man fell to his death from state Route 125 in the Bonita area Tuesday morning after a crash in which his car struck and killed a deer on the freeway.Friends told 10News the victim was Martin Lapisch, 44, a Chula Vista resident who is survived by his wife, Linda, and 15-month-old son Kenneth. He was a German immigrant who became a U.S. citizen in 2003, friends said.“He was a new dad with big dreams, whose life was cut short after a terrible, early morning accident," said a close friend of the victim. “He was a loving father, husband, brother and an awesome friend. He always helped people in need and never asked anything in return," said Lapisch's friend Peter Kritzko.Friends and family gathered together after the incident at Lapisch's home and spoke with 10News but asked not to be identified at this time.California Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Jio said they received reports just before 4:45 a.m. of a car that hit a deer and then stalled on northbound SR-125 just before the transition to state Route 54.Jio said responding officers and fire crews arrived to find the car in the No. 2 lane abandoned with the dead deer in front of it. 1207

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A nightmare of an opening week is continuing for an Ocean Beach tattoo shop. First, around 4 a.m. Saturday, surveillance video shows a man igniting an explosive against the window of Blackwater Tattoo Studio. Then, Sunday around 11:30 p.m., another man rides by on a skateboard, throwing a battery like cylinder through the same window. The owner, Mike Kellerman, shared surveillance video with 10News of both incidents. RELATED: Increased police presence in Ocean Beach following series of crimesThe first video shows a man skateboarding to the front of the business, taping something to the front window, and lighting it on fire. Moments later, the device explodes and blasts a hole in the window. "I expected the first one; the second one kind of pushed the limit," Kellerman said, adding he is not going anywhere. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a woman in a Mountain View apartment, San Diego police announced Thursday.SDPD officials said officers responded to reports of a shooting inside an apartment unit in the 4500 block of Imperial Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.Officers arrived and found a woman, later identified as Emily Cortez, with a gunshot wound in her upper torso. She was located on an upstairs walkway of the apartment complex, SDPD officials said.According to police, a man was providing medical aid as officers and emergency medical crews arrived at the scene.Despite life-saving efforts, Cortez, 19, was declared dead at the scene.During their investigation, SDPD Homicide Unit detectives identified the suspected gunman as 18-year-old Jorge Manuel Sanchez and arrested him in connection with Cortez’s death.SDPD officials said Cortez and Sanchez lived in the apartment where the incident occurred, and the suspect and victim were in a relationship.No other information was released.Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the SDPD Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1188
