(KGTV) — A SWAT team with the San Diego Sheriff's Department arrested a former high school speech therapist on Friday morning.Arturo Avina, 33, was taken into custody on the 1000 block of Shadoridge Drive in Vista.He had been working as a speech therapist at Rancho Buena Vista High School from August of 2017 until January of 2019, according to Lisa Contreras, a spokesperson for Vista Unified School District.In February, investigators allege, he began sending menacing messages to former colleagues. The sheriff’s department called him a “disgruntled employee” but did not describe the nature of the threats.Contreras said the threats were only made against staff, adding “at no time were there any students who were in danger.”Avina was booked on charges of criminal threats as well as burglary and vandalism.He is being held at the Vista Detention Facility on 0,000 bail. Mendoza’s son was killed in 2014 in a head-on collision by a man who was under the influence and living in the U.S. illegally.She and and other parents whose children have been killed by people in the country illegally have labeled themselves “Angel Moms” and have made frequent appearances at the White House and Trump campaign events.Mendoza had apologized for the tweet, writing that she “retweeted a very long thread earlier without reading every post within the thread” and said it “does not reflect my feelings or personal thoughts whatsoever.”A Republican familiar with the plans who spoke on condition of anonymity cited controversy as the reason for pulling Mendoza. WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time in Marine Corps history, women are attending a previously male-only combat training course in California.Marine Capt. Joshua Pena said 40 female Marine students checked-in Tuesday to the Marine Combat Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton.The move comes at least seven months after senior Marine leaders said they were considering the change, amid criticism that much of the early training excludes women.The entry-level course is for Marines who've finished boot camp and aren't assigned to infantry jobs. It lasts about a month and involves basic combat training, including patrol and convoy operations, marksmanship and the use of grenade launchers and machine guns.Pena said the female Marines will be fully integrated with the men, and that their inclusion triggered no changes to the course instruction. He said that eventually as many as 1,700 women would go through the combat training there each year.Currently Marine boot camp on the West Coast is only for male recruits. Women attend boot camp at Parris Island in South Carolina, where they are separated from the men for portions of the training. Congress members have been critical of that policy, and the Corps has been reviewing it.Until now, half of the Marine Corps' male recruits would go through their initial training on the West Coast where they had no female colleagues. A key reason for the limits is the shortage of female recruits. Women make up just 8.7 percent of the Corps.But Marine leaders have been eyeing changes with the belief that giving the men greater exposure to women recruits during training could foster better relations and greater respect over time. 1686

"Since the two species don’t age at the same rate over their lifespans, it turns out it’s not a perfectly linear comparison, as the 1:7 years rule-of-thumb would suggest."This graph formula, which was created from the study, will match up the age of your dog with the comparable human age.Lead researcher Trey Ideker said that dogs that are younger age faster compared to humans.“This makes sense when you think about it — after all, a nine-month-old dog can have puppies, so we already knew that the 1:7 ratio wasn’t an accurate measure of age," Ideker said.For the new study, which was published in the journal Cell Systems, samples of blood from 105 Labrador retrievers were studied.Researchers plan to study other dog breeds to see if their method holds up. 1359

Voters in Mississippi voted to approve a new state flag design.Lawmakers took action this summer to retire the former Mississippi state flag, which contained the Confederate battle emblem.The rebel symbol is widely seen as racist.In the last two months, the process to design and vote on a new flag has moved fast.There was a call to artists to help design a new flag. By law, the new flag must include the phrase, “In God We Trust,” and could not include any depictions of the Confederate battle flag.The designs were narrowed to five based on a public online vote and feedback.
