MONROVIA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Zhou Yuxiao has said his country is a responsible and faithful member of the United Nations and it respects the resolutions adopted by the world body.     In a weekend interview with Xinhua, Ambassador Zhou expressed his confidence that the Chinese peacekeepers serving within the United Nations Mission in Liberia would remain in the country up to 2011 when the Liberians would go to polls to elect a new president.     The ambassador said the Chinese peacekeepers here in Liberia are working under the leadership and guidance of the UN mission.     "As far as I know, the United Nations has decided that UNMIL (the United Nations Mission in Liberia) will stay in Liberia until 2011, and supporting Liberian general election is part of UNMIL mandate."     Ambassador Zhou said there could be a small reduction in the size of the Chinese peacekeeping forces in the country, but the troops would remain in Liberia to provide the needed support up to2011 under the UN Mission.     "As part of the UN Peacekeeping force, the Chinese peacekeepers will certainly play its role in supporting the next elections," he said.     The current Chinese peacekeepers are drawn up in three contingents namely medical, transportation and engineering. He said during the Liberian forthcoming elections, obviously the electoral authority will need transportation support which the Chinese unit can assist with.     Ambassador Zhou said although China does not have a combat troop in the mission, but he is confident that the three contingents can play a positive role in the peacekeeping efforts as well as in supporting the forthcoming elections.     "China has always supported the UN endeavors in maintaining peace and stability in Liberia and my view is that the peacekeeping operation in Liberia has so far been successful and we should allow it to stay so," he added.

HANOI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee General Secretary Nong Duc Manh met with a Communist Party of China (CPC) delegation here on Friday.     The Chinese delegation is headed by He Yong, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and deputy secretary of CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.     During the meeting, Manh said Vietnamese party, government and people treasure the friendship with China. He said developing the Vietnam-China friendly relations serves the common interests and aspirations of the two peoples.     Manh said Vietnam would like to work together with China to enhance support for each other, deepen friendly cooperation of the two parties and two countries, and advance the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in a healthy and steady manner.     Manh said Vietnam is pleased to see that China has overcome various difficulties and challenges brought by the global financial crisis and achieved stable and relatively fast economic growth. Vietnam would like to share with China the experiences of dealing with global financial crisis as well as those of the reform and open-up causes.     For his part, He said in the past few years, China and Vietnam have seen frequent visits of high-level officials, strengthened mutual political trust, great outcomes on economic and trade cooperation and deepened exchanges of experiences in governing the party and the nation.     He said the two parties have also witnessed increased exchanges and cooperation in discipline inspection and fighting corruption.     He said China and Vietnam will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of diplomatic ties next year and at the same time embrace the Year of Friendship. He said China would like to work together with Vietnam to take this opportunity to enrich bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, further strengthen strategic mutual trust, deepen cooperation of mutual benefits, promote common development and push forward the relations of the two parties and two countries to a new stage.     He conveyed the greetings and best wishes from Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President to Manh.     Manh asked He to pass his best wishes to Hu. BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- China appreciates India's decision to terminate a trade investigation into Chinese-made passenger car tires, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Saturday.     The decision would not only help boost the steady development of bilateral trade ties, but also benefit the downstream businesses of India, the MOC said in a statement on its website.     China hoped to increase exchanges and cooperation on trade issues with the Indian government and encouraged dialogue and cooperation among industries for mutual benefit, it said.     The Directorate General of Safeguards under India's Ministry of Finance initiated a safeguard investigation on passenger car tire imports from China in May, according to the statement.     A safeguard duty, a temporary relief, usually takes the form of increased duties to higher than bound rate or standard rates or quantitative restrictions on imports.     According to Indian government statistics, from April to December last year, India imported 20 million U.S. dollars worth of tires involved in the case from China.

LONDON, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren said on Friday that the current economic stimulus measures should be maintained to ensure economic recovery and growth worldwide.     After a BRIC-country meeting held in London, Xie told a news conference that the four countries are now at a key stage of economic recovery, and should strengthen their coordination of economic policy.     The finance ministers and central bank governors of Brazil, Russia, India and China, the so-called BRIC countries, gathered in London on Friday to discuss the current situation of the world economy, as well as their governments' fiscal and monetary policy responses.     Xie stressed that promoting the reform of international financial institutions is a common consensus reached at the G20 summit held in London in April, adding that "we must put it into practice in accordance with the timetable."     The Chinese minister also called on the international community to attach great importance to the imbalance between the North and the South, and to further help developing countries realize common development, so as to achieve a fundamental balance and sustainable growth of the global economy. In many of them, growth is already back on track after a few quarters of recession or slowdown. HANGZHOU, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday his country welcomes Chinese investors.     Zardari made the call during his visit to Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, the first leg of his ongoing China tour. The infrastructure alone will require an initial investment of 110 billion U.S. dollars.     Chinese fruit preservers can also play a crucial role in Pakistan as about 40 percent of Pakistan's fruit can not be moved to other places due to the lack of freezing vehicles, according to Pakistani officials, who commented on the basis of anonymity.     Zardari was paying his fourth visit to China since taking office last September.     He attributed his frequent visits to the intent of bringing back home China's experience in development.
