SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A massive water main break in North Park Tuesday morning flooded streets as the neighborhood continues to cope with issues related to the breaks. According to the city, a 30-inch cast iron water main transmission line broke around 6 a.m. on Ray Street at Capps Street. Currently, the City of San Diego is in the process of replacing all cast iron pipes. After that process is complete, the city says it will assess concrete mains. Crews hope to have all cast iron pipes removed by 2023. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Linda Vista grandfather is missing a pricey, sentimental piece of jewelry after trying to help out some strangers.Steve Phakdy says his 71-year-old father was attending an event at a Buddhist temple in Chollas View more than a week ago, when a white Chevy Tahoe pulled up. "Flagging him down, saying, 'Hello mister.' The husband says, 'It's my wife's birthday. Can you give her a blessing?'" said Phakdy.Phakdy says his father did something to acknowledge the birthday. A woman in her 30s then got out of the SUV."She hugs my dad," said Phakdy. In the backseat was a baby in a car seat."The husband gets out and says, 'We have some jewelry to give you or show you,'" said Phakdy.Together, the two placed rings on his hands, wrapping necklaces around his neck and arms."The husband was grabbing his wrist. Turning it around doing this and doing that," said Phakdy.His father offered to pay for the jewelry, but the couple quickly drove off. "Was looking at the bracelet they gave him and hey, wait, where's my bracelet?" said Phakdy.Gone was a 24-karat-gold-and-diamond bracelet, an anniversary gift from his wife. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Pacific Beach bartender was sucker-punched by a man he said refused to wear a face mask.Tony Aversa, bar lead at 710 Beach Club, said he was working on Saturday, Sept. 5, when he noticed a confrontation at the door around 7 p.m.He says he walked over to the three men and, "I just asked them to please put on a mask and I'll happily help you with whatever you need ... The guy just refused and continued to argue blatantly within inches of my face with no mask on."A female bartender walked over and Aversa said the man shoved her, so he put himself between the man and his coworker.That's when Aversa said another member of the combative group came running."He was walking away at the time and came running back down the sidewalk and blind-sided me with a punch ... Immediately, you could tell my nose was broken, I was gushing blood and I knew immediately what had happened, I kinda spun around and asked one of my employees to call the cops," Aversa said.He said an officer was there within a few minutes and walked with him, finding one of the men. Bystanders said the man who threw the punch got into a car and sped off.Police describe the man as Pacific Islander, 6'2", 260 lbs., with curly brown hair, and wearing a white t-shirt and dark basketball shorts.When we asked if Aversa had anything to say to the man, he said no. "I just want to see him put to justice at this point," says Aversa.Aversa will be seeing a surgeon later this week for his broken nose. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A non-profit and business owner came together to donate thousands of dollars to families in need during the pandemic Wednesday.Non-profit Black San Diego started up in September with the goal of bolstering Black-owned businesses and giving them tools to succeed.They have a Facebook page with 36,000 members.On December 19th, Porschia Wyatt posted asking for prayers for her family."Recently my husband was laid off from his job, he works for the Cheesecake Factory, so time’s been hard for me and my family," she said.She and her husband have a 15-year-old daughter, 7 and 8-year-old sons and a 20-month old daughter.Getting Christmas presents was going to be hard, and November 16th made it even more difficult."I had just ate pizza and next thing you know I started throwing up and I couldn’t breath or anything so I was rushed to the hospital," she said she had an abdominal blockage.She underwent three surgeries and came home on the 25th. Now she had huge medical bills to worry about, which was what pushed her to type a message to the BSD community.She got an overwhelming response, more than a hundred comments and a surprise at her doorstep Wednesday morning.Jaime Harris, owner of Big Block Realty, was holding a giant check for ,000."There are so many families that are affected you know? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge has ruled that the government can continue waiving environmental laws to proceed with construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall.Judge Gonzalo Curiel issued the ruling Tuesday afternoon. They’re giving unprecedented, sweeping power to an unelected agency chief to ignore dozens of laws and crash through hundreds of miles of spectacular borderlands.
