A woman -- barefoot and wearing what could be handcuffs -- repeatedly rang doorbells at a number of Texas homes before vanishing into the night.Now police in Montgomery County are trying to identify her and have released surveillance footage of her approaching a home.The grainy video, captured around 3:20 a.m. on Friday, shows a woman walking up to a house and ringing the doorbell. She's wearing a T-shirt, and appears to have some sort of shackle hanging from her right wrist."We were dead asleep in our beds. My husband was woken up by doorbell ring. It rang probably 20 to 30 times," one resident, who did not want to be named, told CNN affiliate KPRC. "He walked outside, no one was in sight. It's like she disappeared in thin air."KPRC reported that the same woman apparently visited at least five houses in the Sunrise Ranch neighborhood. 855

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man has died following a deputy-involved shooting in Alpine Monday afternoon.  The man's family later identified him as Daniel Ayala. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, deputies shot Ayala at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of Alpine Boulevard around 3 p.m. during a confrontation.No deputies were injured, sheriff's officials said.According to Lt. Michael Blevins, dispatchers had received several 911 calls reporting a man yelling in the apartment complex. Blevins said at one point he made statements threatening to kill people. A witness told 10News, Ayala had pounded on his door, yelling incoherently.When deputies arrived they say they went up to Ayala's apartment."He exited the apartment with a knife in his hand and advanced towards the deputies," said Lt. Blevins.That's when the deputies opened fire. Blevins said more than one deputy fired a gun, though he said they were still investigating exactly who discharged their weapon and how many shots were fired. 1064

ALPINE, Calif. (CNS) - San Diego County officials opened an erosion control center in Alpine Thursday to help businesses and homeowners prevent debris flows in the areas burned by the Valley Fire.The center at 2914 Tavern Road will offer free sandbags, fiber rolls and other items to help residents stabilize properties before rains arrive and potentially trigger mudslides and debris flows, county officials said.Starting Thursday, the center will be open to business and property owners from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Appointments are not required this weekend, but will be required starting on Monday.Residents and business owners can schedule an appointment to pick up erosion control materials by calling the county's stormwater hotline at 888-846-0800.Staff will be available to advise on how to protect properties, homes, garages, sheds and other structures. Staff can also visually inspect properties and offer information on best practices to protect structures.As of Wednesday morning, the Valley Fire remained at 17,665 acres and was 90% contained, according to a Cleveland National Forest incident page.The conflagration, which broke out early on the afternoon of Sept. 5 off Spirit Trail and Carveacre Road in Japatul Valley, ultimately destroyed 30 residences and 31 outbuildings, damaged 11 other structures and left three firefighters injured, according to Cal Fire.Jamul resident Jim Grigsby told ABC 10News, “The fire burned down three of my neighbors' houses.
