ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Escondido Police arrested a pastor who allegedly molested a young girl, authorities announced Friday afternoon.John Rodgers McFarland was taken into custody on Dec. 18 by the Escondido Police Department. The arrest occurred in Fullerton, where McFarland lived and worked. Escondido Police say the alleged incident happened in Escondido several years ago while McFarland was visiting family in the area.He has been charged with two counts of lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14. Since 2014, McFarland has been the head pastor at Orangethorpe United Methodist Church in Fullerton, according to the Fountain Valley Police Department. Before that, he had served as the head of Fountain Valley United Methodist church since 1988. He also was a pastor at Surf City Church in Huntington Beach from 2009 to 2014. According to the Fountain Valley Police Department, there may be other victims abused during his time in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Graffiti referencing the New Zealand mass shooting that left 50 people dead was discovered at the scene of a possible arson at an Escondido mosque early Sunday morning. According to police, the fire started around 3:30 a.m. at the Islamic Center of Escondido located near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Escondido Boulevard. Police believe members of the mosque were able to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived. Seven people were inside when the fire was reportedly set. No one was injured and minimal damage was done to the building, according to police. "Our message to community is to make sure they keep a watchful eye out,'' Escondido Police Lt. Chris Lick said. "If they see something suspicious, especially around a house of worship, they should call police.''According to police, graffiti left behind by the suspect made reference to the mass shooting in New Zealand, though details on the graffiti weren't available. Police tell 10News they are investigating the incident as attempted arson and a possible hate crime. No suspects have been identified at this time. Following the fire, members of the mosque scheduled an interfaith prayer vigil. The event will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Islamic Center of Escondido. "Once again, we will stand together in love and prayer as we show our unified support for the members of this local Mosque and for the Muslim community at large. (KGTV) - Escondido Police announced Saturday the arrest of a 13-year-old boy in a case involving Xanax overdoses at Rincon Middle School.Six children aged 11 to 13 years were found to have taken the anti-anxiety drug at lunch time on October 25.Three of the children required emergency medical treatment.
