She says she’s not sure now if she’ll hand off her phone to a stranger. “I’d probably just say 'hey, I bet the restaurant has a phone inside' or if they’re in a public place,” said Martinez. A spokesperson for Milwaukee police hadn’t heard of any reports but urges people to be cautious. Martinez says as another precaution, you should download antivirus and spyware apps and what’s called a VPN app, or "virtual private network." HOUSTON — An Associated Press review of medical records for four detained immigrant women and interviews with lawyers have revealed growing allegations that a gynecologist performed surgeries and other procedures that the women never sought or didn't fully understand.Dr. Mahendra Amin was linked this week to allegations of unwanted hysterectomies performed on immigrant women at Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia.Some procedures could be justified based on problems noted in the medical records, but lawyers and medical experts say the women's lack of consent or knowledge raises severe legal and ethical issues.Amin provided gynecological treatment or performed surgery on eight women dating back to 2017, including one hysterectomy, according to an attorney an immigration and civil rights lawyer working with attorneys to investigate medical treatment at the detention center.The AP's report comes days after a nurse's complaint at the detention center was widely published. Dawn Wooten claimed that many immigrant women were taken to an unidentified doctor she called the "uterus collector" because of how many hysterectomies he performed.In an interview with The Intercept, Amin said he performed "one or two hysterectomies in the past three years." HIs lawyer told the AP that Amin was looking forward to the "facts coming out," and claimed that he would be cleared of wrongdoing.The AP did not find evidence of the "mass hysterectomies" that Wooten alleged. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Wednesday, Imperial Beach city leaders unanimously approved a one-cent sale tax measure for the November ballot.The city says, if enacted, the measure would, "enable the City to prepare for medical or catastrophic emergencies including preparing local first responder services, updating emergency communication systems and maintaining rapid 911 emergency response capacity."The potential one-cent sales tax increase would also support restoring the city's long-term emergency funding that is being used to address the coronavirus pandemic."Even through these challenging times, the City must continue to address challenges with clean, safe neighborhoods and addressing homelessness to maintain Imperial Beach as a quality community to live, work and raise a family for all residents," said Assistant City Manager, Erika Cortez-Martinez.The measure includes accountability and transparency requirements, including public disclosure of spending and independent audits, the city says.If approved it would go into effect in the spring of 2021. 1079
