There's a new warning about makeup. A watchdog group says it has found asbestos in several products, sold in a store targeted to teens and young girls. What do you think of when you hear the word asbestos?“I think of like commercials like where your loved one has been exposed to asbestos and you die,” one woman says. “I'm like, 'Oh my God,' it's terrible.”Another woman said, “Like in a house that's like shut down forever” she says. “There's asbestos in a house.”You don't usually think of makeup.Danny Katz with U.S. PIRG, a consumer watchdog group said it tested more than a dozen make up products and found "high levels of asbestos" in three. They're all sold at Claire's, a store with products aimed toward girls and young women.“It's completely unacceptable to have asbestos in these products,” Katz says. “Asbestos if you inhale it or ingested it can lead to lung cancer it can lead to mesothelioma, which is cancer of the internal organs, and if you apply it over skin over time it can also increase the risk of skin cancer."Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can be found in talc, a common product in many makeup products. But Katz says it's a company's responsibility to make sure the talc it uses hasn't been contaminated.“We need Claire's to remove these products from the shelves and we need them to figure out how asbestos got in their products to begin with,” Katz says. “We need Congress and the FDA to take action. We need to ban asbestos from beauty care products and makeup.”Right now, Katz and U.S. PIRG are urging us to avoid products with talc until federal laws change.It's not the first time Claire's has come under scrutiny for this. Top North Korean officials warned the United States in a letter that denuclearization talks are "again at stake and may fall apart," sources familiar with the process told CNN.The letter was delivered to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who abruptly canceled his fourth trip to Pyongyang, hours before he was scheduled to depart with his new special envoy Stephen Biegun on Friday, sources said.Three sources with direct knowledge of the North Korean position on denuclearization said the letter stated that Kim's regime felt that the process couldn't move forward because "the US is still not ready to meet (North Korean) expectations in terms of taking a step forward to sign a peace treaty."The US has so far been unwilling to replace the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War with a permanent, legally binding peace treaty, which would require the approval of two-thirds of the US Senate.If a compromise cannot be reached and nascent talks crumble, Pyongyang could resume "nuclear and missile activities," the sources said.The existence of the letter, sent to Pompeo by Kim Yong Chol, the former head of North Korea's spy agency, was first reported by the Washington Post.The Post, which characterized the letter as a "secret" communication, said it wasn't clear how Kim had gotten the letter to Pompeo, but suggested that it may have been sent through its UN mission.However, Pompeo has been relying on other backchannels, as opposed to dealing directly with his diplomatic counterpart North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, one source said."Before and after Pompeo became the Secretary of State, he seemed to be more interested in maintaining and engaging with Kim Yong Chol through a backdoor channel, rather than with his formal counterpart Ri Yong Ho," said the source. 1809

They’re a lifeline to the local economy.“That’s crazy because, I mean, it’s our history,” said Pedro Bonilla, owner of El Buen Taco.Bonilla says these trees attract tourists and with Big Basin park closed for at least a year due to fire damage, his taco truck could have to close.“We weren’t prepared mentally or financially prepared for this,” he said.Thousands of acres have burned at Big Basin since fires sparked a few weeks ago, torching everything from the ancient trees to historic structures that were built in the early 1900s.“It’s hard to grasp you know how much damage the fire did to the infrastructure, said Mark McKenna of California State Parks.While McKenna says redwood trees are resilient, their recovery could take years.“The complexity of the rebuilding process, it's daunting when you see the damage that happened up there,” he said.That damage is both extensive and expensive. And though the total cost has not been tallied, people there say you can’t put a price tag on the park.“It’s like losing a loved one,” Bonilla said.While locals can’t replace the history that was lost during these wildfires, they’re still somehow optimistic about the future.“Just when it looked like the darkest time possible for the San Lorenzo Valley, we’re still standing here,” said local radio DJ, Sam Peacock.They're standing tall after flames burned the trees to the ground, because eventually, new life will sprout up even after this disaster.“It just shows that don’t underestimate Mother Nature,” Bonilla said. 1823

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin asked the White House about the possibility of using a government jet for his European honeymoon this summer but later withdrew the request.A Treasury Department spokesperson told CNN in a statement that Mnuchin made the request to ensure he had access to secure lines of communication when he and his new wife, Louise Linton, were traveling."Treasury withdrew its request after a secure communications option was identified during the Secretary's extended travel," the spokesperson said Wednesday.Treasury said it has a practice of considering a "wide range of options" to ensure Mnuchin has access to secure communications, including the possible use of military aircraft.The Treasury spokesperson said it was "imperative" that Mnuchin, who is a member of the National Security Council and directly involved with national security issues tied to North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela, could communicate securely.ABC News was the first media outlet to report the Secretary's request.When asked if there was a review of the request, an official with the Treasury Department's Inspector General, which investigates allegations of wrongdoing within the agency, told CNN Wednesday "We are looking at all requests and uses of government aircraft."A White House spokesperson declined to comment and directed questions to Treasury.This is not the first time a trip by the former Goldman Sachs banker has raised eyebrows.Another trip by Mnuchin and his wife to Kentucky last month is already under review by the Treasury Department's Inspector General.Jaws dropped in August when Linton posted a picture of herself on Instagram stepping out of a U.S. government plane.
