SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego FBI and prosecutors Monday announced a million reward for a wanted terrorist.According to the agency, Jehad Serwan Mostafa, 37, is a U.S citizen. During a Monday news conference, the FBI called Mostafa the “highest ranking American fighting overseas.” The FBI says Mostafa grew up in San Diego and, at some point, moved to Somalia and became a member of the al-Shabaab terrorist organization. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Humane Society launched an investigation into possible animal neglect Monday.  The investigation is focused on the former Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club.The golf course shut down in July.A spokesman with the Humane Society says someone reported that the declining state of one of the ponds on the course was endangering koi and other wildlife.Homeowners living near the course say they often smell a foul stench coming from the pond.The Humane Society says they’ve they’ve reached out to the owner of the country club and golf course.The Humane Society sent 10News a statement that says in part:"Because it is an open investigation, we cannot discuss details, but we take reports like this very seriously. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The two brothers convicted of killing their parents at their Beverly Hills mansion have been reunited in prison, according to the Associated Press.A spokesperson for the corrections department says 47-year-old Erik Menendez has moved into the same housing unit as his 50-year-old brother, Lyle Menendez.Both brothers are serving life sentences for shooting and killing their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989.Officials say Lyle was moved from Mule Creek State Prison to San Diego’s R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility in February, where his brother has been held in a separate unit since 2013. Wednesday, Erik moved into the same facility, where inmates interact in rehabilitation programs. The brothers can now spend time together during meal time and recreational periods. Each of the brothers has served time at three other state prisons. The brothers claim the murders happened after they were sexually abused by their father. Prosecutors said during the trial that the brothers wanted their parents’ multimillion-dollar estate. 1091

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District announced their plans for the 2020-2021 school year Thursday night to the board and community.Due to a rise in coronavirus cases and state restrictions classes will be completely virtual from Aug. 3-Oct. 2.Students will have a block schedule, which means no change for many students. They will have three classes a day with 30-45 minutes of face time with their teacher and 45-60 minutes of class spent as independent study.The district said this provides flexibility to both teachers and students.The district said there will be graded assignments and tests, but teachers voiced their opinion saying it is hard to monitor whether students are cheating. The district set three checkpoints to determine if the district will remain virtual throughout the entire school year. Those dates are September 21, November 30 and March 1. These dates allow the district to plan for the future, coordinating buses and teacher's needs.Some parents aren't comfortable with the idea of going back to campus anytime soon."I'm feeling like they need to study it more," said Dr. Marie Zhivago said. Her incoming senior and freshman students have asthma, making them more vulnerable to COVID-19. "I don't want my kids to be guinea pigs. I don't want them to be the test," Zhivago said. She thinks if students go back to school too early there could be another wave of cases, adding, "I'm not ready to sacrifice one child for that, one death, no way."The district said when they're allowed to bring children back to campus there will be strict guidelines for social distancing, masks and sanitation.The district is offering a separate virtual learning opportunity for up to 360 families, called Launch Academy.The district said students are being connected with equipment to get them online and have resources available for students, teachers and counselors.Zhivago said these investments will pay dividends, telling ABC 10News, "I think they should put the funding into distance learning because this is definitely going to happen again."The board will vote Monday on the proposed plans. 2137

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The teen boy who was bitten by a shark last September in Encinitas threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Padres game Tuesday night.Keane Hayes, 14, was attacked by a shark while diving for lobsters off Beacon's beach. The shark managed to bite his left cheek, shoulder and chest.Hayes was an active athlete who was a pitcher for his baseball team, so he worried at the time whether or not he'd fully recover."I always thought, what if my arm isn’t the same? What if I’m not going to be able to throw?" said Hayes.But over the past nine months, he has been working hard with a physical therapist to get back to his former self."He’s come such a long way," said Jon Luu, the physical therapist who has been working with Keane."He’s always positive, always motivated to get better each and everyday," said Luu.While nervous, Hayes said he was excited to get up on the mound and show the crowd how far he had come.The pitch went straight over the plate. 978
