INGLEWOOD (CNS) - A suspect allegedly armed with a sword opened fire on responding officers Wednesday at or near the Church of Scientology in Inglewood, injuring two of them before he was himself wounded by return fire, possibly fatally, police said.One officer was struck in a hand and the other in an arm in the shooting, which was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Market Street, according to the Inglewood Police Department.Both were taken to a hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.The suspect, initially reported by police to have been killed in the exchange of gunfire, was later taken to a hospital, according to a fire department spokesman.Inglewood police Lt. Neal Cochran, citing initial information from the scene, said the suspect was believed to have been fatally wounded, but subsequent reports indicated he was in grave condition.The gunfire erupted after two officers responded to a report of a male suspect armed with a sword at or near the Church of Scientology at 315 S. It's called an "atmospheric river" -- basically a river in the sky -- that could unleash catastrophic amounts of rain.And the major storm is barreling right toward the fire-scarred regions of Southern California, with a potential to trigger flash flooding, mudslides and significant debris flow.The heaviest rainfall is expected Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, and officials have already ordered mandatory evacuations in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Incredible video captured by researchers at Florida Atlantic University captured the blacktip shark's annual migration off Florida’s southeast coast.FAU researchers refer to the blacktip shark's as the "snowbirds of the sea". The sharks migrate south during the cold months and head up north when the weather, and water, start to warm back up. They leave the north when water temperatures drop below 71 degrees Fahrenheit and start heading south.The video was taken by FAU researchers on February 27, right off MacArthur Park in Singer Island.“Last year, we saw a dramatic decline in the number of blacktip sharks that migrated south. In fact, it was so low that we estimated the population to be about one-third of what we have seen in previous years,” said Kajiura, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and director of the Elasmobranch Research Laboratory in FAU’s Charles E.
