BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- A Brooklyn karaoke bar with over 280 people inside was shut down over COVID-19 violations early Sunday, according to the New York City Sheriff's Office.Authorities shut down Legend KTV karaoke bar in Borough Park around 2 a.m.About 281 people were inside the location, which exceeded Department of Building occupancy and had a vacate order from 2018, the NYC sheriff said.The location’s liquor license was also revoked in 2019.The venue had windowless, private party rooms with 25 to 30 people inside, according to a law enforcement source.Inside one of the rooms was a young child who was running back and forth between tables, according to the source.While 281 people were inside, authorities believe there were likely more people as about 40 dispersed when the sheriff’s office arrived, the source said.At least six people were arrested for offenses, including child endangerment, authorities said.This story was originally published by Cristian Benavides and Kristine Garcia at WPIX. 1013

BONITA (CNS) - A man and a woman in their 80s were found dead inside their Bonita home by a relative checking on their welfare, authorities said Friday.San Diego County sheriff's deputies responded at 2:56 p.m. Thursday to the residence in the 5500 block of Pray Street, Lt. Michael Blevins said.The relative had stopped to check on them because they had not heard from the couple in days, Blevins said."Both had traumatic injuries," he said.Sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating, Blevins said. BETHESDA, Maryland — The Montgomery County Police press office said Tuesday afternoon that it received a call to assist for a report of an active shooter at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.Around 3:15 p.m. Eastern, reports indicated it was a drill, not an actual active shooter situation.During the situation, Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Maryland, tweeted about it from inside the center."I am currently at Walter Reed Medical in Bethesda where we've been told there is an active shooter," Ruppersberger said. "I am currently safe in a conference room w/ approx 40 others."Two individuals separately told CNN they were inside the building at Walter Reed just before 3 p.m. Tuesday and were told to continue to shelter in place. "They’re kind of on the frontlines of the mistakes of the justice system, the people who’ve been wrongfully convicted, whether that was intentional or not," said Barbarin. Through free legal resources, CIP works to get people who've been wrongfully convicted out of prison. “At that time, I believed in the system, I believed the system was right and that all people were treated equally and fair," said Kiera Newsome. Newsome was just 16 when she learned how unjust the justice system could be after being charged with first-degree murder.“One thing I knew for sure was I’ll go to court, and they’ll figure this thing out, and I’ll be home with my family. And over 19 years later, I was still incarcerated," said Newsome. Attorneys say she was set up by gang members to take the fall for murder, despite being in school when the crime was committed and having an alibi. “That week I was going to end it all, and the week I was going to end it all, I got a letter from Justin Brooks saying they were going to take the case," Newsome remembers after CIP took on her case. However, it would be another 14 years until Newsome walked out of jail, and she’s still fighting to be fully exonerated.“Yes, this can happen to anyone, and the saddest part about it is there’s not enough Innocence Projects to hold each and every person that's innocent," said Newsome. "When you realize what you’ve been going through for the last seven months is just a financial thing, and what some people have gone through their entire lives, it humbles you," said Harris. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Five people, including two elementary school students, were arrested after police investigated online threats made against another student. The Bloomington Police Department began investigating after a Fairview Elementary School representative notified police about a threatening Instagram video on Feb. 17. The video showed two students making threats and showing an AK-47-type weapon. One of the boys in the video made threats toward a female student and her brother. He said the gun was real and the two people were going to get "lit up," police say.In the investigation, police learned the threats were made after an argument about a dating relationship between the parties. Police then went to a house to locate the weapon in the video. At the house, a woman, Laquita S. Perry-Leverston, 33, went to the trunk of a car, where she retrieved the weapon and a pistol. Both were BB guns, police say. After a warrant was obtained, police began searching the house. One person in the house, a 17-year-old boy, told officers they weren't going to touch him, according to police. He began resisting and was arrested by officers. The 17-year-old was handcuffed and placed into a patrol vehicle, where he tried to kick out a window and threatened to kill an officer, police say.Two adults, Paris R. Leverston Sr., 37, and Laquita, became upset when the 17-year-old was arrested. According to Bloomington police, "Attempts were made to explain to her the reason why, but both adults continued to be loud and disruptive."
