LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- La Mesa Police are searching for several suspects they say robbed three Grossmont High School students at gunpoint.According to the city, the students were walking westbound on Murray Drive just before 1 p.m. Wednesday when a blue Nissan Sentra pulled into a Shell gas station and stopped.The driver of the car got out of the vehicle and demanded money from the students. As the first suspect demanded cash, a passenger in the vehicle pointed a handgun at the victims.After taking money from two of the students, the suspects left the scene.Police described the first suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic man, approximately 17 or 18 years old, with brown eyes, a mustache, and groomed eyebrows.The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 18-19 years old, with black wavy hair and light-colored tips. (KGTV) - Students in a UC San Diego computer science course are still trying to understand why someone put a racial slur in their study guide dozens of times.The CSE 134B midterm study guide was a collaborative effort among the students. Only those in the class had access to it and could edit it anonymously.The night before the exam, students like Raymond Arevalo were shocked to see the n-word in it 85 times."I got on the study guide and saw the instance of the n-word, and then I noticed another instance," said Arevalo. "I was really shocked and kind of mad because this wasn't the first time this has happened before in other classes I've been."Arevalo says he has experienced a negative culture in the computer science program at the school. He says far too often minorities and women are targeted in the male-dominated field.He shared images of the defaced midterm online, hoping to raise awareness of the problems he believes exist."People continue to do these things knowing that they won't get in trouble, and it's like a small joke to them, if the person were to get in trouble that would be nice," said Arevalo.The story was first reported in The Triton, an independent, student-run news source. LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas family is living in fear after two men broke in while their teenage daughter hid in a bedroom closet.17-year-old Maxeen is still shook up after what happened inside her home near Cactus and Interstate 15 on Saturday.“It sucks to just be alone and I’ve never been in a situation like that,” she said.Maxeen said she was home alone Saturday when someone started ringing the doorbell repeatedly around 2:30 p.m.Maxeen felt something was wrong, and that’s when she says a man showed up in the backyard breaking in through the sliding glass door.“I tried to call my mom but she was at work, so I kind of ran upstairs and I knew he was going to come to the back,” the teen said.Maxeen dialed 911 and hid in one of the closets in a bedroom.The home’s interior surveillance camera shows two men running up the stairs where Maxeen was hiding.Maxeen’s mom is thankful her daughter is OK, but says this frightening ordeal has hit the entire family.“We’re very disturbed right now,” Maxeen's mother, Barbara, said. “It feels like it’s not real, but it is. So we got affected by it and everyone is so scared.”The family said the burglars actually left their getaway ride outside the home when they left.They took a picture of it and hope that vehicle will lead police to the two.  1309

Like many things during the pandemic, a lot of food pantries have gone online.“On the food and fundraising side, online has really been a lifesaver for many food banks,” Zuani Villarreal, Direcortor of Communications at Feeding America.Feeding America says food pantries have changed with the drop in volunteers and pop-up mobile distribution sites.Now, they're putting a bigger focus on online fundraising.“Any time that there is a food drive and there's food collected and donated from the public that has to be sorted, that has to be inspected to make sure it’s safe for distribution,” said Villarreal.Virtual food drives are a lot like online shopping. People can select the products online that they want to buy to donate. And then, the food pantry places an order once they have enough.Many local food drives are planning virtual events for the holidays, which is a critical time.A lot of what is raised now helps support them through the year.More Americans need help now than ever. Some 35 million people were facing hunger pre-COVID-19. Law enforcement arrested a man in connection with a West Palm Beach-area sledgehammer attack and theft of thousands of dollars?in February.Roady Sanozier, 38, is charged with hitting a courier, employed by Cord Financial Services, with a sledgehammer and stealing 8,000 in a heist at a business center on North Australian Avenue in Mangonia Park.On the day of the attack, the suspect fled the scene in a black Toyota Tundra. Law enforcement searched a neighborhood near the scene the day of the attack and robbery but did not arrest anyone.Sanozier, a former Cord Financial employee who was fired in August 2017 for stealing more than ,000 in cash from the company, was developed as a possible suspect in the robbery.A probable cause affidavit said that Sanozier posted a video on April 21 of himself near a black Toyota that was parked beside his car.Using that video and Google Maps, detectives traced the video to a home in Coral Springs, where they found him and took him into custody on April 25.Sanozier admitted to police that he wired ,000 cash to Haiti on Feb. 17 and bought three vehicles for a total cash value spent of ,500.A friend of Sanozier owned the Toyota Tundra, but investigators believe Sanozier was the getaway driver the day of the robbery.He faces homicide, battery, robbery and larceny charges in connection with the attack.  At a Wednesday morning court hearing, no bond was issued.
